Day 1
Linyanti The Linyanti Marsh, located at the Northwest corner of the park and to the North of Savuti, is adjacent to Linyanti River. To the west of this area lies Selinda Reserve and on the Northern bank of Kwando River is Namibia's Mamili National Park. Around these 2 rivers are riverine woodlands, open woodlands as well as lagoons, and the rest of the region mainly consists of flood plains. There are here large concentrations of lions, leopards, wild dogs, Roan antelopes, Sable antelopes, hippopotamuses and above all enormous herds of elephants. The rarer red lechwe, sitatunga or crocodile also occur in the area. Birdlife is very rich here. The three-night/four-day safari covers approximately 70km while the nights are spent in fly camps along the way, set up wherever the canoeists end up. The days are spent paddling eastwards along the Spillway, stopping whenever there is something of interest to be seen along the banks, such as the many wildlife and bird species found in the area. The trail begins at the Motswiri airfield at approximately 13h00. Once the guide has briefed the group, the trail starts with a short walk to the canoe station where the real adventure begins. As there is no set distance to be covered on the first day and also due to the fact that all the equipment is carried with the group, we will paddle until we are ready to stop, just before sunset at a suitable site on the banks of the Spillway. The dome tented camp will be erected and we will enjoy well-deserved sundowners around the campfire before we have dinner, followed by a good night's sleep. A magical experience appealing to travellers of all ages, the Selinda Canoe Trail is a canoeing and walking adventure safari, replicating the safari experiences of old as it navigates along the Selinda Spillway in the heart of the Selinda Reserve. The days are spent paddling eastwards along the Spillway, stopping whenever there is something of interest to be seen along the banks, such as the many wildlife and bird species found in the area. Overnight at Selinda Canoe Safari. |
