Day 1
Dakar Dakar, the capital city of Senegal, was settled around the 15th century by the Lebou people who are an ethnic group related to the Wolof and Sereer. Dakar, Senegal's largest city is located on the Cape Verde Peninsula, on the country's Atlantic coast which is the westernmost African city. It's an advantageous departure point for trans-Atlantic and European trade; this fact aided its growth into a major regional port. Airport transfer with private vehicle and guide. The Novotel Dakar is located in the central business district, looking across to Goree Island, 5 minutes walk from the Place de l Independence and 15 km from Leopold Sedar Senghor International Airport. Day 2
Dakar Visit of the various Markets of the capital city of Senegal: Kermel, Sandaga, and the handicraft market of Soumbedioune, you will also go through Tilen market famous for its medicinal herbs and its traditional healers Visit of the Great Mosque, stop at the president’s palace and the parliament house. Going to Cheick Anta Diop University you will visit the picturesque district of Medina and the residential district of Fann. Just twenty minutes from Dakar Port, the ferryboat will arrive at Goree. Goree Island carries the heavy burden of 300 years slave trading in West Africa. The island ranks today among the classified monuments of the World Patrimony. You will visit the Slave-House and will listen to a lecture delivered by the curator. Visit of the auction block, the ethnographic Museum, the fort and interact with the inhabitants. Day 3
Dakar Visit the old town of Rufisque with its small, narrow streets surrounded by two story houses with black - Smith balconies. Visit different villages and farms, meet various ethnic groups. Stop to see a herd of long horned West African cattle being tended by the semi-nomadic Peulh herdsmen. You will visit the town of Thies with its huge market rich of African fabrics and medicinal herbs. Also visit the Art Tapestries Manufactory famous all around the world. Next we will enjoy a nice meal in one of the beach restaurant in the Saly resort area. Afternoon free for swimming. While returning to Dakar, visit of other villages. Overnight at Novotel Dakar. |

Day 4
Dakar A full day trip to the area called la Petite Côte around 60 miles south of Dakar. After passing through the suburb Rufisque and small villages surrounded by Baobab forests all along the road, you will arrive at Mbour. Visit the local market, and then drive on to Joal, an old colonial spot discovered by the Portuguese during the 15th century, and still a very important center in the region and the birthplace of President Leopold Sedar Senghor. A short tour by pirogue to the island of Fadiouth, famous for its Oyster-banks and sea-shell cemetery. Lunch in a restaurant close to the beach, afternoon free swimming and sunbathing. Day 5
Fatick Region Fatick is the southwest region of the northern outcrop of Senegal. Its alternative name is Jinnak Bolon. The region is named for its capital city, Fatick. Visit the Pink Lake one of the rarest natural phenomenon of the world: the lake takes its pink colour from some micro-organisms and shows a high concentration of salt, as a mirror it sparkles in the middle of sand dunes. You will meet the “salt harvesters” with their colourful tackle, meet and interact with the Fulani ethnic groups leaving in the surrounding villages. Airport transfer with private vehicle and guide. You will be met and transferred to Toubacaouta to your hotel. Les Palétuviers Toubacouta and its luxurious sleeping huts are spread out in a beautiful baobab and flower park in the middle of a small authentic village called Toubacouta. Fatick Region While at the hotel you will be able to choose from a wide range of excursions you can do by foot, by boat, by car or even by bike. You may also be interested in fishing, bird watching and hunting in the bush. Find out what is the most interesting for you and experience Africa.
Choose from a Cultural walk in the village of Toubacouta where you'll have the chance to visit the health center, the maternity ward and the local school. You may also want to try your hand at Senagalese cooking, biking, fishing or going to the local market. Ask your travel expert about all of the various options. Trip Terms & Conditions
- Your deposit is due immediately on booking (30% of program price, minimum $250). The balance is due 90 days prior to departure. We accept payment via credit card, certified check, wire transfer or money order.
- Tour quotes do not include airfare to/from the trip start point unless noted on the itinerary
- Cost increases in currency exchange, government fees, taxes, surcharges or hotel/lodge tariff increases between quote date and start date are payable by the client.
- Availability cannot be guaranteed until booked. We will exercise best efforts to book hotels per the itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of tour date we may be forced to offer substitutes.
- Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $350 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of deposit. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to 100% of program price.
