Day 1 South Luangwa

South Luangwa National Park in eastern Zambia, the southernmost of three national parks in the valley of the Luangwa River, is a world-renowned wildlife haven. It supports large populations of Thorneycroft's Giraffe, and herds of elephant and buffalo often several hundred strong, while the Luangwa River supports abundant crocodiles and hippopotamuses. It is one of the best-known national parks in Africa for walking safaris. Founded as a game reserve in 1938, it became a national park in 1972 and now covers 9,050 km².

Luggage restricted to 12 kg per person in soft sided bags.  Travel time is approximately 1 and a half hours.

Today you will be met upon arrival at the Mfuwe airport. The transfer time from the airport to the lodge is approximately 2 hours in 4 X 4 vehicles (45 minute road transfer through the village of Mfuwe and then 45 minutes game drive in the South Luangwa National Park). Please note that the luggage restriction is 15kg per person in a soft-sided bag.

While at the lodge, all meals and drinks (except premium brands), twice daily game-viewing activities, park fees, laundry and emergency evacuation are included.

Puku Ridge Camp is situated in the remote, wildlife rich South Luangwa National Park. This north west corner is also renowned for excellent hippo and Nile crocodile sightings, and large herds of buffalo, zebra and wildebeest migrating towards Savute are often trailed by prides of lion. Over 450 species of bird have been recorded in the reserve. Thrilling game drives lead by qualified professional guides bring you close to hippos, buffalos, puku, antelope, lions and other creatures that gather on the banks of the Chobe River. Game drives are also the perfect opportunity for the expert guides to share their wealth of information on the area and its inhabitants. Sundowner cruises are the best way to end a day. Sipping on a cocktail while watching an African sunset over the still waters of the Chobe River, toasting to the end of yet another beautiful day, while looking forward to what the new day will bring. These specially designed riverboats take you up close to elephants as they wade in the river or near to the buffalo who gather on its shores.
