Day 1
Sydney Sydney is the most populous city in Australia, with a metropolitan area population of approximately 4.28 million. It is the state capital of New South Wales, and the site of the first British colony in Australia, established in 1788 at Sydney Cove by Arthur Phillip, leader of the First Fleet from Britain. Located on Australia's south-east coast, the city is built around Port Jackson, which includes Sydney Harbour, leading to the city's nickname, "the Harbour City". It is noted for the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, and its beaches. The metropolitan area is surrounded by national parks, and contains many bays, rivers and inlets. Sydney There are so many things to do in Sydney it may be hard deciding what to choose. We would recommend some of the following attractions: Sydney Aquarium, Sydney Tower + Oz Trek, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales which also houses an Aboriginal Art exhibition. You can also choose to take a half day city sights tour, a one hour Majestic Harbour Cruise (which operates daily at 10:30 or 15:00) or the Sydney Opera House Essential Tour (1 hr, operates daily between 09:00 and 17:00). Day 3
Sydney Captain Cook's Sydney Harbour Explorer has 4 stops around Sydney Harbour, with the option to get off and explore and simply rejoin throughout the day. Cruises depart regularly throughout the day and you can combine your cruise with entry to Taronga Zoo or the Aquarium. Late afternoon arrive into Hunter wine country where you'll enjoy tasting superb Hunter wines before arriving at your hotel in the vineyards. Sydney You will depart today for Port Stephens by private air-conditoned mini-coach. In your 4WD cross Stockton sand dunes onto the 40 km (25 mile) beachfront. See the unbelievable dunes and dig for pipis. Enjoy delicious lunch overlooking the marina at Port Stephens. This afternoon join an unforgettable 1.5 hour dolphin watch cruise on the sheltered waters of Port Stephens. There's even time for a swim if you feel like it! Return to Sydney at approximately 6.30pm. This is a magical holiday and wildlife experience in the wine country and blue water paradise of Hunter Valley and Port Stephens. Ayers Rock Uluru, also referred to as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory, central Australia. It lies 335 km (208 mi) south west of the nearest large town, Alice Springs; 450 km (280 mi) by road. Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Uluru are the two major features of the Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park. Uluru is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, the Aboriginal people of the area. It has many springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru is listed as a World Heritage Site. Includes airport transfer to city/hotel with private vehicle, professional driver and local representative. Travel between Ayers Rock airport to hotel and vice versa. Wait times may vary but approximately 20minutes. You will be picked up from your hotel by coach along with fellow travellers. We will visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre and Maruku Arts and Craft Cooperative, dedicated to interpreting Anangu culture and law. Travel to the waterhole of Mutitjulu for a guided walk, viewing ancient cave paintings and learning about the Aboriginal legends of Kuniya Tjukurpa (Python Dreaming). Join the guided Mala Walk to learn the story of the Mala (Hare Wallaby) people who once lived at Uluru. See painted caves and learn of the region’s geology and flora. As you tour the base of Uluru, visit Kantju Gorge, a waterhole and old hunting ground. Late in the day, watch the sunset over Uluru, admire the ever-changing colours of the monolith while the sun sinks below the horizon. Ayers Rock You will be picked up from your Ayers Rock hotel one hour before sunrise by an expert naturalist guide. On this small group tour you enjoy sunrise, a restaurant breakfast overlooking Uluru and the Liru Walk with Aboriginal guides. On the famous Liru Walk you will retrace the path of the Liru Ancestors through the bushland near Uluru. Hear the tragic fate of Lungkata (Blue Tongue Lizard Man), who is still lying at the base of Uluru. See demonstrations of ancient bush skills such as making kiti (bush glue), making fire without matches and carving wooden tools with only a sharpened stone. Learn to hold and throw a spear. Enjoy time at leisure to explore at your own pace, or relax at your hotel. Here is an unforgettable evening, eating beautifully prepared food under the Outback sky by the Sounds of Silence Dinner. A special location is chosen where you are escorted to shortly before sundown. A lone didgeridoo echoes across the desert as you enjoy champagne and canapés. While the sun sets in a blaze of reds and oranges, and well into the starlit night, you feast on array of the Northern Territory's culinary delights, including barramundi, kangaroo, emu, crocodile, bush salads, and classic Australian desserts. Cairns The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system, composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for 2,600 kilometres (1,600 mi) over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres (133,000 sq mi). The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. This reef structure is composed of and built by billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyps. The Great Barrier Reef supports a wide diversity of life, and was selected as a World Heritage Site in 1981. Travel between Ayers Rock airport to hotel and vice versa. Day 10
Cooktown Cooktown is the northernmost town on the east coast of Australia, located at the mouth of the Endeavour River, on Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland. In the Guugu Yimithirr the name for the region is, Gan.gaarr, which means "(place of the) rock crystals." Quartz crystals were used in various Aboriginal ceremonies and are found in the vicinity, they were traded as far south as Mossman, to the north of Cairns. Depart Cairns and cross the Daintree River by cable ferry before an interpretive World Heritage Rainforest walk. We’ll visit the conservation base of the Australian Rainforest Foundation and contribute to a tree planting program to increase cassowary habitat and reduce our carbon footprint. Continue north along the 4WD Bloomfield Track, crossing creeks and mountain ranges. Meet the Walker Family, Aboriginal women who share their traditional knowledge of bush tucker and medicine at the spectacular Bloomfield Falls, and join them for a picnic lunch at a picturesque riverside site. Stop at the Lion's Den, a classic outback pub, and visit mysterious Black Mountain. In Australia’s most historic frontier outpost, Cooktown, relive journeys of exploration and a rollicking goldrush. Day 11
Laura Laura is a rural town in the Mid North - Southern Flinders Ranges region of South Australia, 12 km north of Gladstone on the Main North Road and 40 km east of Port Pirie. It is famous as the home of Golden North Ice Cream which has been manufactured in the town since 1923 (the factory being the biggest employer in the District), and was a boyhood home of poet C.J. Dennis, whose first poem was published in the Laura Standard newspaper. Depart Cooktown and travel west into the savannah. A 4WD track will take you into Jowalbinna, the epicentre of “Quinkan” Rock Art for outback hospitality. You’ll be inspired by this afternoon’s rock art walk. This body of work is rated by UNESCO as one of the top ten rock art regions in the world. Your guide will explain the significance of these artworks, the traditional lifestyle of the Aboriginal people and the conservation initiatives to preserve these national treasures. Later relax with a refreshing swim in a bush creek or simply enjoy the peace of this remote outback location. In the evening relax by the campfire. Jowalbinna is a pleasant five hour drive from Cairns. A two night stay is recommended. Accommodation is in comfortable cabins with share facilities or camp in picturesque natural campsites. Day 12
Cairns Rise to the morning chorus of Kookaburras and Blue-faced Honeyeaters, two of over fifty bird species here. Enjoy breakfast in the bush and choose to throw a boomerang, take a self guided walk or paint your own canvas. Depart Jowalbinna and head through the outback landscape to visit the Quinkan Regional Cultural Centre. Cross the Great Dividing Range and leave the termite mounds and beef cattle country to descend the rainforest clad mountains. Meet the coast once again, returning to Port Douglas or Cairns. The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space and is the world's biggest single structure made by living organisms. The Great Barrier Reef supports a wide diversity of life, and was selected as a World Heritage Site in 1981. CNN has labelled it one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. The Queensland National Trust has named it a state icon of Queensland. A large part of the reef is protected by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, which helps to limit the impact of human use, such as overfishing and tourism. You will be transferred back to Cairns by hi-speed air-conditioned catamaran and private car. Spend the day in the sun snorkelling and diving at your leisure. Your time onboard Reef Encounter will be spent scuba diving or snorkelling at the many different reefs and locations on the Great Barrier Reef that we travel to and from. Reef Encounter is a 35 metre luxury vessel designed for the utmost stability & comfort at sea.
