Itinerary

Day 1 Queenstown

Queenstown is a resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealand's South Island. It is built around an inlet on Lake Wakatipu, a long thin lake shaped like a staggered lightning bolt, and has spectacular views of nearby mountains. A resort town, Queenstown is a centre for adventure tourism. Skiing, jet boating, bungee jumping, mountain biking, tramping and fly fishing are all strong promotional themes. Queenstown is a major centre for snow sports in New Zealand, with four main mountain skifields (Cardrona Alpine Resort, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Treble Cone).

Enjoy a private airport transfer to your accommodation with vehicle and driver.

Close to the airport, this property is also near Steamer Wharf and TSS Earnslaw Steamship. Another nearby point of interest is Queenstown Harbour. Guestrooms have premium bedding, minibars, and high-speed (wired) Internet access (surcharge); rooms also include refrigerators, bathrobes, and hair dryers. At Hotel St Moritz, Queenstown - MGallery Collection by Accor recreational amenities include a health club, a spa tub, and a sauna. The property also provides a restaurant, a children's club, and a concierge desk.

Day 2 Milford Sound

By road, Milford Sound is 295 km from Queenstown and 279 km from Invercargill (about four hours drive),[13][14] with most of the tour buses to the sound departing from Queenstown. Some tourists also arrive from the smaller tourism centre of Te Anau, 121 km away. There are also scenic flights by light aircraft and helicopter tours to and from Milford Sound Airport. The drive to Milford Sound itself passes through unspoiled mountain landscapes before entering the 1.2 km Homer Tunnel which emerges into rain-forest-carpeted canyons that descend to the sound. The winding mountain road, while of high standards, is very prone to avalanches and closures during the winter half of the year.

You will be picked up from your hotel at approximately 800am. During the leisurely journey to Milford Sound our drivers provide interesting commentary and there is plenty of time to enjoy short walks and photo opportunities. You will drive over spectacular alpine roads in one of the unique glass roof coaches specially designed for your viewing comfort.

Your trip begins with a coach transfer from Queenstown. An overnight cruise on the Milford Mariner is the ultimate dinner, bed and breakfast experience. Depart from the Milford Sound wharf in the late afternoon and cruise the full length of Milford Sound to the Tasman Sea accompanied by a specialist nature guide. The cruise style is relaxed, allowing plenty of time to view the fiord’s spectacular waterfalls, rainforest, mountains and wildlife. The Milford Mariner then anchors in a sheltered cove, where you can join the nature guide and explore in the vessel’s tender craft (small boat) and kayaks. Or, if you prefer, you can simply relax on deck. As evening falls, enjoy a lavish carvery buffet in the dining saloon. Then relax in the company of fellow travellers or indulge in some star-gazing before retiring to your private cabin. Following breakfast, and your return to the wharf, coach back to Queenstown.
