Sicily, the most southern point of Italy has always represented a strategic stronghold and for this reason has seen various groups pass through over time - Greeks, Romans, Arabs and Normans, all of which left vestiges of their culture behind which are visable today. Spend 3 days in the eastern side of the island. The medieval mountaintop coastal resort town of Taormina has natural beauty that will leave you breathless. Enjoy a full day tour taking in the volcanic Mt Etna, a scenic train ride through the gorge of Alcantara, and another full day to relax on the beach or to explore the city, home to some of the most magnificent Baroque art and architecture. Explore the island of Ortigia, and view the remains of the cathedral built over a Greek temple dating back to 480 BC. Both of these full day shared tours are in the company of an English speaking Guide/Escort.

Day 1 Taormina

The natural beauty of the medieval mountaintop town of Taormina is so great, that despite overdevelopment in the last 50 years, it has not spoiled its grandeur. The view of the sea and Mt Etna from its jagged cactus-covered cliffs is as close to perfection as a panorama can get, especially on clear days when the snow-capped volcano's white puffs of smoke are etched against the blue sky.

Train station transfer with private vehicle and Italian speaking Driver.

A welcome package with your vouchers, a city map, train tickets (if relevant) and any other touristic information that we deem you may find useful will be waiting for you upon your arrival at your first hotel on your trip.

Enjoy a 4 hour walking tour of the historical centre of Taormina, famous for its Greek-Roman amphitheatre and its enchanting view of the Ionic sea and Mt Etna. Let your Guide know your particular interests and he/she will help you discover the city in a new way.

Day 2 Taormina

Enjoy a full day tour visiting the extensive Archaeological Area of Siracusa with its Greek Theatre, the Latomie's with Dionysius Ear. Then visit Ortigia Island, the historical heart of this ancient port, seeing Arethusa's fountain and the splendid Cathedral built over a Greek temple dating back to 480 BC, parts of which can still be seen. (Tour includes transportation, escort service, and English guide service).

Day 3 Taormina

You will be collected from your accommodation in Taormina for an excursion to Mount Etna. Your guide will introduce you to the main features of interest for this natural landmark. Time for trekking (optional ascent to the top). The base excursion is up to a height of 1900 meters, which is the area of the death crater, and all the souvenir shops and restaurant. There is a possibility to have a snack at the bar or to have lunch at the restaurant; however one will have less time for lunch if going to the top. (Cost not included: first by cable car to 2500 mt. and then by jeep to 2900 mt.) At the end of the tour, you will be returned to your accommodation in Taormina. The tour runs from 8.30am to 4pm.

  • Your deposit is due immediately on booking (30% of program price, minimum $250). The balance is due 90 days prior to departure. We accept payment via credit card, certified check, wire transfer or money order.
  • Tour quotes do not include airfare to/from the trip start point unless noted on the itinerary
  • Cost increases in currency exchange, government fees, taxes, surcharges or hotel/lodge tariff increases between quote date and start date are payable by the client.
  • Availability cannot be guaranteed until booked. We will exercise best efforts to book hotels per the itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of tour date we may be forced to offer substitutes.
  • Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $350 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of deposit. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to 100% of program price.
