Itinerary

Day 1 Oslo

Oslo is the capital and largest city in Norway. The city was founded around 1048 by King Harald III of Norway. In 1624 the town was largely destroyed by a fire. The Danish-Norwegian king Christian IV rebuilt and changed the name of the city to Christiania. The diocese of Oslo is one of the five original dioceses in Norway, who originated around the year 1070.

Relax on a private Airport transfer with private vehicle and English speaking driver in Oslo.

Thon Hotel Opera (4*) is located close to the Airport Express Train Terminal at Oslo Central Station. The hotel offers 434 well-equipped rooms in various sizes, 2 of which are magnificent suites on the 9th floor and fabulous views of Oslo Fjord and the new opera house in Oslo.

Day 2 Oslo

Oslo is widely known as "the big-hearted city". Oslo was founded in 1048. In 1536 Norway became a Danish province through a royal marriage until 1814 where Norway seceded from Denmark, went into a union with Sweden and made Christiania the capital of Norway. The new constitution required some official buildings. In the year 1624 fire destroyed most of the city which was later rebuilt by the Danish King Christian IV and named Christiania. In 1925 the city reverted to its original name of Oslo. The city is surrounded by magnificent scenery with the fjord lapping its shores and forested hills encircling it. Together the fjord and the forests offer outdoor recreational opportunities with which no other capital in the world can compare. Enjoy a panoramic tour of the city with your private escort. No entrance fees are included.

Day 4 Stavanger

Enjoy a 3 hour cruise to Prekestolen (Pulpit rock) located east of Stavanger. The most famous tourist attraction in Ryfylke, Prekestolen towers an impressive 604 metres over the Lysefjord. This flat mountain plateau, approximately 600 square metres, was most likely formed with the melting frost 10,000 years ago. (Please note that there must be at least 15 passengers for this cruise to run. Given that it is a very popular cruise, it typically runs as per schedule).

Day 5 Bergen

Bergen is the second largest city in Norway, and is located on the south-western coast of Norway. Its city centre is situated among a group of mountains known as "De syv fjell" (lit. The Seven Mountains). Bergen is an important cultural center in its region and was one of nine European cities honored with the title of European Capital of Culture in 2000. The main reason for Bergen's importance was the trade with dried cod from the northern Norwegian coast, which started around 1100 CE. By the late 1300s, Bergen had established itself as the center of the trade in Norway. The Saxon Hanseatic merchants lived in their own separate quarter of town, where Middle Saxon (“Middle Low German”) was used, enjoying exclusive rights to trade with the northern fishermen that each summer sailed to Bergen. Today, Bergen's old quayside, Bryggen is on UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites.

Depart Stavanger today on a hydrofoil to Bergen. The journey takes approximately 4 hours.

Enjoy port transfer with private vehicle and English speaking driver.

Augustin Hotel (4*) has a central location by the harbour and the shopping area. The hotel is a good base for a walk around the old town at Nordnes and down towards the concert-and dance stage at the USF Warf. At Nordnes you will find the Aquarium and the beautiful Nordnes Park with views of the fjord. Augustin is now the oldest family-run full-service hotel in Bergen. The hotel, built in 1909 in Jugend style, passed into the hands of the present family ten years later, and is now run by the fourth generation. Its 1999 extension increased the capacity 109 room and a new bar in 400 year-old cellar. The Brasserie No22 has a modern rustic interior but there is nothing rustic about the food it serves – neither its light meals nor its tempting main dishes. Guests can enjoy both a pleasant "old-fashioned" lounge and modern, award-winning interiors. Its highly conscious use of colours and fittings helps make the Augustin a hotel out of the ordinary.

Day 6 Bergen

Enjoy a guided walking tour of the city. The places along your route include the Hanseatic Museum which is housed in the oldest and best preserved wooden buildings in Bergen. The interiors date from the 18th and 19th centuries. In times past, the Hanseatic merchants traded mainly with stockfish from Northern Norway and grain from the Baltic countries. Only German merchants were allowed to live at Bryggen during the period of the Hanseatic Office. The Hanseatics were unmarried and had to live in celibacy as long as they lived in the area. The tenements in the Bryggen area each consists of several smaller trade houses, each run by a merchant with a journeyman and apprentices. The Museum depicts what one of these trade houses would have been like in the last years of the German Office at Bryggen. Your tour will also include a visit to the local Fish market and you can take a funicular ride up to the top of Fløyen mountain (320 metres above sea level). The ride itself is spectacular and the views of Bergen only improve the closer you get to the top.
