Itinerary

Day 1 Rome

Rome, the 'Eternal City', is the capital of Italy. The historical center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Make sure to explore the sites of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. A few blocks away, Old Rome is the center of the medieval and Renaissance periods, with beautiful plazas, cathedrals, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Fountains of Trevi, Campo de' Fiori, Spanish Steps, and plenty of shopping and dining. Just across the river is the Vatican, the Papal City State and its endless treasure troves of sights, relics, and museums, as well as the surrounding Italian neighborhood, Vaticano. Via Veneto leads north into modern Rome to the train station and is lined with glitzy shops and hotels for every budget.

Enjoy a private Airport (Fiumicino/Ciampino) transfer with a private vehicle and driver.

A welcome package with your vouchers, a city map, train tickets (if relevant) and any other touristic information that we deem you may find useful will be waiting for you upon your arrival at your first hotel on your trip.

Enjoy one of the most delightful and fascinating walks in the world!  Monumental Rome is a mix of piazzas (squares), Rennaissance architectural masterpieces, and thousands of years of history -all interwoven with cafes, shopping, and great gelato! Your walk through the historical centre starts at the Spanish Steps, famously leading down to the historic center of the city and surrounded with fabulous shopping, from bargain to the top brands. Continue to the Trevi Fountain where legend says if you flip a coin into the water you are sure to return to Rome. The Piazza Colona's great buildings are hemmed in by rushing traffic, so continue on a few blocks to the massive Pantheon, which was built in the First Century B.C. and for millenia was the highest arched building in the world. Its a short walk to Piazza Navona, with the famous Fountain of the Four Rivers, Bernini's masterpiece. This square is packed with artists, cafes, and a swirl of faces - its a great place to enjoy the view. You can explore this part of the city for days!

Hotel Trevi (3*) is two steps away from its namesake the Trevi Fountain.  It offers a refined atmosphere equipped with the best facilities within a historical 16th century palace.  It is located in the proximity of the famous “Via Veneto”, and the magnificent Spanish Steps.  Breakfast is served on a splendid, yet peaceful, rooftop garden where guests can enjoy the view of a typical urban skyline of the Eternal City. Comfort, tradition and efficiency is the principle for making  each stay unforgettable. Under new Roman law, hotels charge a small amount per traveller per day as a “tourist tax”, which needs to be paid locally through your hotel in Rome. Amounts may vary, but currently the cost is 2EUR per person for 2* & 3* hotels and 3EUR for 4* & 5* hotels. The charges will be added to your bill upon check out and are non-negotiable.

St. Peter's Basilica
Day 3 Rome

After your lunch, enjoy an afternoon tour as you discover imperial and early Christian Rome by peeling back layers and millennia of history as you descend into the Eternal city's underground burial chambers, its long winding catacombs and its crypts. Your guide will explain the secrets of the Domitilla Catacombs, an ancient Christian burial ground, and the Church of San Clemente, built over an ancient fourth century church which was built over an even older Roman house containing Christian artifacts and a pagan temple almost 20 metres below ground level. You'll also visit Santa Maria Maggiore, the Holy Stairs, Old Appian Way and Domine Quo Vadis Chapel. (Includes Tour guide, tickets to Domitilla Catacombs and the church of San Clemente and air-conditioned transportation). Includes pick up and drop-off at hotel.

The sprawling grounds around the Villa Borghese are perfect for an afternoon picnic. Stop for supplies at a local grocer (panini buns, cheese, prosciutto, and perhaps a nice bottle of Chianti?) and head towards the Spanish Steps at the northern edge of the city. Climb the grand, sweeping steps to the twin bell towers of the Chiesa Trinita dei Monti, commissioned in 1585 by Pope Sixtus V and designed by Giacomo della Porta, a follower of Michelangelo, and enjoy the stunning views of the Roman rooftops. At the top of the steps, take a right along Via Sistina and a left into Via Francesco Crispi. Then follow the Aurelian wall (the ancient Roman city wall) until you arrive at Via Vittorio Veneto. Turn left there and enter the Villa Borghese gardens on your right. Walk along the tree-lined Viale del Museo Borghese to the stunning Museo e Galleria Borghese, home to stunning Renaissance masterpieces by Bernini, Caravaggio, and Canova. You can pre-book tickets online at www.ticketeria.it (tickets purchased locally and not included in the price of your tour). After the museum, head down Via dell'Uccelliera and stop in at the city zoo, called the Bioparco (tickets purchased locally and not included in the price of your tour). After the zoo, follow Viale del Giardino Zoologico down to the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, home to the masterpieces of the Italian impressionists (tickets purchased locally and not included in tour price). After all the walking, animal watching, and masterpiece oggling, it's time for lunch! Head down the grand steps in front of the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna and follow Via Madama Letizia. After a short walk you'll see a pretty lake with an island temple on it. The temple is called the Tempio de Esculapio and was designed by the 18th-century architect Antonio Asprucci and is dedicated to the Roman god of health. Find a quiet scrap of grass here, unpack your lunch, and enjoy a beautiful sunny Roman afternoon in the park!

Train station transfer with private vehicle and English speaking Driver.

Explore the colorful, historical centre of Nice at leisure...The Cours Selaya Flower Market is a must-see. This is also one of the main neighborhoods for dining, with several cafés lining the outdoor market. If you want seafood, this is the spot to hit. There are also several souvenir shops, gourmet shops and other boutiques here. The Promenade des Anglais is something anyone visiting Nice is sure to see. The Pedestrian Zone (zone pietonne) is a bit of a tourist trap, but there's a good reason. This is a lovely area for a stroll, as cars are forbidden except for the early morning. The shops here are on the tacky-tee-shirt scale in most cases, although there are several great clothing store chains and nice shops like the gourmet boutique Ducs de Gascony. This is the ideal spot to sip a café au lait and watch the world go by. Follow the Cours Saleya which runs parallel to the United States quay - polychrome façades, flower market, fruit and vegetable market, chapelle de la Miséricorde) then turn left into the rue Jules-Gilly (Red Penitents’ chapel). Continue on Rue Droite (église du Gesù) before reaching on your left, place Rossetti (cathédrale Sainte-Réparate). Return to rue Droite (palais Lascaris) towards place Saint-François (fish market). Then back to the Promenade des Anglais and Place Masséna through the narrow streets of the old city (many shops and restaurants) or via the castle hill (splendid view over the city and the port).

Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant (not included in tour price). Here are a few suggestions: Les Viviers- An elegant dining room with light wood panelling or a 1900s-style bistro: two decors but the same cuisine, based on fish, seafood and dishes of the day. Classic cuisine with prices approximately 38€ (weekday lunch)/85€ - Menu: 39€/90€. Closed 21 July-18 August, Saturday lunch and Sunday. Brasserie Flo - A parterre of tables and troop of waiters at the ready: the bell rings and the deep-red curtain goes up on the kitchens of this brasserie housed in a 1930 theatre. Meals - 23€ - 30€ incl. drinks (lunch)/55€ - Menu: 32€/67€.Stephane Viano - Easily recognisable by its long veranda furnished with Provençal-blue chairs, this fashionable restaurant also has a dining room with a vaulted ceiling and black and white decor. Typical Nice dishes given a modern twist. Meals - 32€/58€ - Menu: 42€/58€. Closed on Sundays.

Garcia (tel 93 302 69 89; La Rambla 4) is a handy spot to take a look at these products. You will find Majorica pearls in El Corte Ingles department stores too. Arts & Crafts - For an overview of high-quality Catalan crafts (artesania), pop into the Centre Catala d'Artesania (tel 93 467 46 60; Passeig de Gracia 55). It is dedicated to promoting and maintaining Catalan craft traditions. Art - Along Carrer de Montcada are several commercial galleries, the biggest being Galeria Maeght (Carrer de Montcada 25).
