Day 1
Hilton Head Hilton Head Island is in South Carolina, just across the border from Savannah, Georgia. It is located on a beautiful, semi-tropical 12 mile barrier island. Hilton Head Island is a vacation playland with famous beaches and great golf courses that overlook the Atlantic Ocean. The island has a rich history that started with seasonal occupation by native Americans thousands of years ago, and continued with European exploration and the Sea Island Cotton trade. It became an important base of operations for the Union blockade of the Southern ports during the Civil War. Today it is best known as a seaside resort destination with superb golf courses. You will be provided with a pre-departure package which will include all necessary information that you will need for your trip including materials such as vouchers, maps, train tickets (if relevant) etc. Enjoy a private airport transfer with a professional driver. Depart from the hotel and begin to explore Hilton Head Island on a half day (3hrs) shared tour. Your tour Guide will first explain the history of this barrier island and there will be stops at several historical sites which may include: Baynard Ruins, Fort Mitchell, Farmlands and the tabby ruins. En route, you will also learn about the natural, coastal environment and the intrinsic wildlife found here. Your Guide will point out live oak trees, salt marshes, various species of birds and possibly even an alligator. As you continue, the tour will take you through the island’s planned residential communities or “Plantations”. One of those stops will be at Harbour Town. This picturesque village is reminiscent of a Mediterranean seaside village and even has its own candy-striped lighthouse. You will have some time at leisure here to take a leisurely walk out on the pier or visit one of the unique boutiques or restaurants before returning to Hilton Head. As a vast, 5,000-acre oceanfront retreat, The Sea Pines Resort has enthralled generations of travelers and guests for more than 50 years. Immerse yourself in the splendor, history, and luxury that define the original Hilton Head Island resort - home of the annual Verizon Heritage PGA golf tournament. Explore the infinite opportunities for adventure, indulgence, and relaxation that exist here ... from unparalleled golf and award-winning tennis to world-class luxury accommodations and gourmet restaurants. The iconic Harbour Town Golf Links is the main event, the single "must-play" venue in the region. On an island where golf is king, this legendary Hilton Head golf course location is true royalty. Only slightly less celebrated, but just as stunning, the Ocean Course and Heron Point by Pete Dye, formerly known as Sea Marsh, are highly regarded resort layouts. Like their famed sibling, they are also full of gnarled, centuries-old hardwoods, lagoons, and salt water marshes.
