Day 1
Los Angeles The city of Los Angeles, also known as the "City of Angels" or simply L.A., is the largest city in California. Located on a broad basin in Southern California, it's surrounded by vast mountain ranges, deep valleys, forests, desert and miles of coastline on the Pacific Ocean. Los Angeles is an important center of culture, business, media, and international trade, but is most famous for being the center of the world's entertainment industry, which forms the base of its global status. Historically, the downtown fell into disrepair, however, in recent years, the area has seen a booming revival, with trendy hotels, bars, shops and restaurants opening to make it a place to be again. Hollywood is home to the film studios and entertainment theme parks. You will be provided with a pre-departure package which will include all necessary information that you will need for your trip including materials such as vouchers, maps, train tickets (if relevant) etc. Take a private airport transfer in Los Angeles with a private vehicle and driver. Make your own way to Hollywood and Highland. Here you'll meet up with your tour and visit all the famous (and infamous) landmarks in Hollywood and is a delight for anyone fascinated with Hollywood history! Take a journey to Hollywood's most famous landmarks including Grauman's Chinese Theatre (home of the famous hand and foot prints), Kodak Theatre (home of the Oscars) and the Walk of Fame! Find out how Hollywood got its unusual name and reveal the story behind the Hollywood Sign itself. You will also visit many other impressive landmarks you may have new about including El Capitan Theatre (Disney's premiere theatre), Grauman's Egyptian theatre (where the movie premiere was born), and the Roosevelt Hotel (birthplace of the Oscars). Located on the grounds of Universal Studios Hollywood and 9 miles from downtown Los Angeles, Sheraton Universal a 20-story hotel is 1 block from the Metro stop and 4 miles from Grauman's Chinese Theatre. Sheraton Universal Hotel offers a large fitness center, an outdoor pool with spa tub, a casual restaurant, and complimentary guest tram service to Universal Studios Hollywood. Day 2
Los Angeles The most interesting and popular sight in Venice Beach is the beach, but it's not the surf and sand that take center stage here. It's the lively sidewalk scene. Venice Beach is a place where you'll find artists, palm readers and bikini-clad roller skaters mixing with chanting, saffron-clad Hare Krishnas and wriggling belly dancers. Points of Interest include; • Venice Boardwalk - It's really more of a sidewalk than a "board" walk, but a walk down it is the best way to explore the waterfront scene. You'll pass street performers, skaters, artists, gawkers and vendors selling all kinds of items from incense to sarongs. • Muscle Beach: This is the place where Arnold Schwarzenegger and hosts of other body-builders have "bulked up" in the outdoor weight room. If you'd like to have your day in the sun, you can buy a day pass at the office. • Venice Canals: A few blocks remain out of some 16 miles of manmade waterways that once graced Venice-of-America, founded in 1905 by local developer Abbot Kinney. You can walk along them in the area bordered by Washington, South Venice Blvd., Pacific Ave. and Ocean Ave. Hollywood Boulevard is the stuff of legends, but it may not be what you expect. You won't find movie stars walking the streets, and most of the movie studios moved out years ago, and frankly, this part of Hollywood is one of the most touristy spots in all of Los Angeles. It's also the home of the Walk of Fame, footprints at Grauman's Chinese Theatre and Hollywood at Highland shopping/dining complex. Spend the afternoon shopping for souvenirs, then have dinner at one of the many restaurants at the Hollywood and HIghland complex. This morning you will visit Monterey's famed Fisherman's Wharf, as well as go on a whale watching cruise. Fisherman's Wharf has seen bales of Chinese silks and barrels of Spanish wine, whaling ships, Navy cutters, and fishing boats by the score. In its various incarnations, Fisherman's Wharf has been the focus of Monterey's economic life for centuries.
Following the Wharf, you will go on a whale watching cruise. Killer whales can be seen year-round in Monterey Bay, although, as nature will dictate, on an unpredictable basis. Peak time for sightings is April and May, when they frequent Monterey Bay to hunt gray whale calves.
Lunch will follow at Cannery Row. Overnight at Sheraton Universal (4*). |
