Day 3 Scottsdale

Scottsdaleis a city in the eastern part of Maricopa County, Arizona, adjacent to Phoenix. Scottsdale is regarded as an upscale tourist and shopping destination and as a representation of western American style. The New York Times described downtown Scottsdale as "a desert version of Miami's South Beach" and as having "plenty of late night partying and a buzzing hotel scene". Scottsdale is bordered to the west by Phoenix and Paradise Valley, to the north by Carefree, to the south by Tempe, and to the east by Fountain Hills and the Salt River Pima.

Leaving Los Angeles behind we travel towards the rugged San Jacinto Mountains and Palm Springs, a pretty pastiche of swaying palm trees, a lively downtown area and immaculately kept golf courses. We continue across the desert to Arizona’s State Capital, Phoenix.

Scottsdale Cottonwoods Resort & Suites is an inviting oasis in Scottsdale featuring exotic desert flora, clean crisp air, and breathtaking mountain views. The hotel is a peaceful, green 25 acre retreat tucked into the Sonoran Desert. Secluded yet convenient, just 12 miles from the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX), the luxury resort is surrounded by everything that makes Scottsdale world-renowned. All of their casita style Scottsdale accommodations feature casually elegant décor in desert hues of beiges, rusts, and other earth tones with rustic whitewashed wood-beamed ceilings.

Day 4 Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon National Park is a United States National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is located entirely in northern Arizona and is one of the great tourist attractions in the United States. There are two ways to approach the Canyon: the remote North Rim and the more accessible (and therefore more crowded) South Rim. Both areas have several options for camping, as well as hotels and restaurants. Expect all of these facilities to be overflowing with visitors during the busy summer season. Fall, spring, and winter are all great times to visit the Grand Canyon.

Travel through the Sonoran Desert, the richest, most biologically diverse desert ecosystem in the Americas. Continue to Sedona and see the spectacular red rock scenery. Situated in a unique geological area, Sedona is encircled by distinctive red-rock monoliths with such names as Cathedral and Coffee Pot. Then drive through the breathtaking Oak Creek Canyon before arriving at Grand Canyon National Park. Visit lookout points along the South Rim to fully experience this mile-deep canyon.

Yavapai West Lodge is Grand Canyon National Park Lodges' largest facility and is surrounded by Pinyon and Juniper woodlands, about 1/2 mile from the rim. With modern rooms and many services within a few steps, this is a convenient choice for families. The Lodge is located next to the Market Plaza, which includes a general store, bank, and U.S. Post Office. The National Park Service Visitor Center is within a short walk - approximately 1/2 mile.
