Maryland is a U.S. state located in the Mid Atlantic region, bordering Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia to its south and west; Pennsylvania to its north; and Delaware to its east. Settled as a British colony in 1632, Maryland was one of the thirteen colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution, and the seventh state admitted to the United States.
