Itinerary

Day 1 Santiago

Santiago is the capital of Chile, and its largest city. Two decades of uninterrupted economic growth have transformed Santiago into one of Latin America's most modern metropolitan areas, with extensive suburban development, dozens of shopping malls, and impressive high-rise architecture. Santiago has an excellently preserved city square that is very pleasant for a leisurely walk. It also boasts numerous museums, parks, churches and fine restaurants for dining. For a taste of world renown Chilean wines, visit some of the nearby vineyards for day excursions.

Upon arrival you will be met by our local representative who will help you locating your vehicle.

Enjoy a private airport transfer in Santiago with a private guide and driver.

Please note: Upon arrival by air, American and Canadian visitors to Chile are required to pay a reciprocity fee of US$131 for American and US$132 for Canadian. Other nationalities will vary. Upon payment, cash, credit card or travelers checks, a receipt will be stapled at the back of passport and is valid for the duration of the passport. Subject to change without notice. Please consult with the Chilean consulate for full details.

Kensington Tours donates a portion of proceeds to our charitable initiative www.kensingtoncares.com which supports education-based initiatives in disadvantaged communities.

Enjoy time at leisure to explore at your own pace, or relax at your hotel.

Situated in one of the most prestigious areas of Santiago, Plaza el Bosque Park & Suites is a great choice for families and those who like space. The 179 suites are well-appointed, with a small kitchenette and beautiful views of the city. Breakfast is an array of fresh fruits, dairy, pastries and other morning favorites. Dine at any of the numerous restaurants nearby, which serve everything from Chilean traditional dishes to international specialties. Make use of the abundance of facilities, which include a sauna, fitness room, and a games room with pool tables and chess.

Day 2 Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine National Park was designated a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1978. The park features mountains, glaciers, lakes and rivers, with the Cordillera del Paine as the centerpiece. This eastern spur of the Andes is located on the east side of the Grey Glacier, rising dramatically above the Patagonian steppe. Small valleys separate the spectacular granite spires and mountains of the massif. The national park is a popular hiking destination. There are clearly marked paths and many refuges which provide shelter and basic services. Views are breathtaking. Hikers can opt for a day trip to see the towers, walk the popular "W" route in about five days, or trek the full circle in 8-9 days. Hikers are not allowed to stray from the paths. Camping is only allowed at specified campsites, and wood fires are prohibited.

Enjoy a private airport transfer in Santiago with a private guide and driver.

Fly directly from Santiago to Punta Arenas. Flights are subject to availability. The flight duration is approximately 3.5 hours.

Daily regular transfers provided during the week for the guests going to the EcoCamp from different points outside the Park. All transfers are shared with other EcoCamp clients. Please bear in mind that the environmental goal is to minimize the transportation frequency within the Park so all EcoCamp guests will share the same vehicle on the whole route or on portions of the route. EcoCamp´s vehicles are 14-16 seats minibuses. The trip starts in Punta Arenas city either at your hotel or at the airport. From Punta Arenas drive to EcoCamp Patagonia located in world famous Torres del Paine National Park. During summer the sun sets around 11 pm, so as you drive in you will have plenty of light to admire the Patagonian steppe with its guanacos and snow-peaked mountain horizon. Before arriving, there are a couple stops. One is Puerto Natales, a small but lively town on the shores of Seno Ultima Esperanza - “Last Hope Sound”. You are invited to check out the town and enjoy a hearty lunch with delicious local food. The other stop is at Cueva de Milodon, a massive prehistoric cave where the remains of a giant ground sloth were discovered in the 1890’s. The surrounding area is very scenic with plenty of wild birds to be seen. The day ends with an overnight at the EcoCamp Suite Domes in Las Torres.

Camp in comfort in Chile's famed Patagonia with the least ecological impact possible. Located at the end of the world the Ecocamp offers the perfect compromise between hotel accommodation and camping. Conveniently located within Torres del Paine National Park, these large dome-shaped tents offer close contact with nature yet avoid the ardores and discomfort of traditional camping. The English speaking guides do everything possible to make your trekking experience, your wildlife tour, your photography safari - be what it may - a special and unforgettable experience where you will be able to relax from the pressures of everyday life and genuinely recreate yourself surrounded by the wonders of Patagonian natural beauty. Trek in virgin beech forests; admire colossal glaciers; think and wonder about humankind while standing at the foot of the towering granite peaks of the Torres del Paine; sit in total silence under the Southern Cross and share a glass of wine with new friends.
