Day 1
Lima Limais situated halfway alongPeru’s desert coastline, literally stuck between the desert and the deep blue sea. The valley was once dominated by hundreds of pre-Inca temples and palaces. Pizarro chose the palace of local chief Taurí Chusko as the site of the city’s inauguration on January 6, 1535, and thus beganLima’s colonial history, reflected in the opulent mansions with Moorish latticed wooden balconies that graceLima’s plazas. The main square, Plaza de Armas, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, complete with paths, gardens and an elegant bronze fountain. Surrounding the main plaza are the Cathedral, Archbishop’s Palace, the Town Hall and the impressive Palacio de Gobierno (GovernmentPalace). Cultural attractions aside, areas such as Barranco, Miraflores andSan Isidrohave much to offer the visitor in the way of shopping, restaurants and nightlife. Upon arrival you will be met by our local representative who will help you locate your vehicle. Our local representative will meet you for an airport transfer, with private vehicle and professional driver. With its stylish contemporary design, cutting-edge technology and ideal location, the flagship Casa Andina Private Collection - Miraflores hotel is the top of its class in every aspect. Once the Miraflores César's, Lima’s fondly remembered, original five-star hotel, this modern icon was dramatically transformed in 2008 into the capital’s newest luxury hotel. Its quintessential Limeño flavor reverberates in the exquisite art collection of contemporary local artists and prized colonial-era antiques, in both public spaces and accommodations. Day 2
Lima Your private driver will pick you up today for a visit to Pachacamac, which lies 25 miles (about a one hour drive) southeast of Lima adjacent to the Pan American highway along the Pacific coastline. This site was considered one of the most important religious centers of the indigenous peoples of the central Andes, and contains a number of pyramids testament to its previous inhabitants.
Continue your excursion to a Private Estate and have the opportunity to enjoy a demonstration of the elegant Peruvian Paso Horse. The Peruvian Paso horse is the smoothest gaited horse in the world. Descended from the horses of the Conquistadors, Peruvian Paso horses possess the royal heritage of Spanish breeds and the fiery spirit and gentle nature of a horse willing to work and eager to please. The horse was bred for the comfort and enjoyment of the rider and its gait accounts for the smooth ride. It is a four beat lateral pattern with the footfalls being : right hind -- right front -- left hind -- left front. The result is the smoothest ride of any breed of horse and a beautiful display to look at. The garments of the "Chalan" (rider), plain white pants and shirt, straw hat, a poncho made of vicuna fiber, scarf, boots and spurs are part of the traditional ensemble.
Riding the horses is also available after the demonstration! A typical Peruvian lunch is served as part of the tour. Return to your hotel after lunch. The Magic Water Circuit, recently inaugurated in the Reserve Park, has become one of the newest and most visited attraction in Lima. This circuit offers muliple impressive fountains that combine movement, lights, sounds and images. Overnight at Casa Andina Private Collection. |

It is in the Amazon forest, 55 km west of the Bolivian border, on the confluence of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios River, a tributary of the Amazon River. The climate is tropical. Nearby are the Manu and Tambopata-Candamo national parks and the Bahuaja-Sonene national reserved area. These are some of the most pristine primary rain forests in the world. There are several tourist eco-lodges around Puerto Maldonado and in the reserves. One of the main attractions are the hundreds of macaws which congregate at various "colpas", or "collpas", a Quechua word which means salted earth, (clay licks) daily to eat clay. Our local representative will meet you for an airport transfer, with private vehicle and professional driver. Fly from Lima to Puerto Maldonado via Cuzco. Approximate flying time is.just under 3 hours. Tambopata Refugio Amazonas is entrenched in the Tambopata National Reserve, in the Southern Peruvian rainforest region, known as the Biodiversity Capital of Peru. A shared transfer from/to the airport is included in your reservation. The transfer involves a combination of boat ride and road transfer in each direction.
Guides are assigned at a 10:1 ratio at Refugio Amazonas. This means groups smaller than 10 people will be merged with other groups under one guide. Drive 20 kilometers to the Tambopata River Port, entering the Native Community of Infierno. Continue by boat to Tambopata River Port to Refugio Amazonas. The two and a half hour boat ride will pass the Community of Infierno and the Tambopata National Reserve´s checkpoint and into the buffer zone of this 1.3 million hectare conservation unit.
Upon arrival, the lodge manager will welcome you. Enjoy an orientation of the lodge followed by Dinner (included in the program). Afterwards, participate in a night excursion to spot caiman at the river’s edge, scanning the shores with headlamps and flashlights to catch the red gleams of reflection from caiman eyes. Day 4
Puerto Maldonado Enjoy one of the many Amazon excursions offered at the Tambopata Refugio Amazonas:
Oxbow Lake Visit
Paddle around the lake on a canoe or a catamaran, looking for lakeside wildlife such as hoatzin, caiman and horned screamers, hoping to see the otters which are infrequently seen here. You will also be rewarded with overhead sightings of macaws.
Canopy Climbing
Replicating the daily work of macaw researchers, you will climb a 30 meter tree with a rope, harness and jumar. From this vantage point you will have a macaw’s eye view of the forest. This demanding exercise is perfectly safe and requires no previous experience.
After Dinner Night Walking
You have the option of hiking out at night, when most of the mammals are active but difficult to see. Easier to find are frogs with shapes and sounds as bizarre as their natural histories. Overnight at Tambopata Refugio Amazonas. |

Day 5
Puerto Maldonado Enjoy one of the many Amazon excursions offered at the Tambopata Refugio Amazonas:
Canopy Tower
A thirty minute walk from Refugio Amazonas leads to the 25 meter scaffolding canopy tower. A banister staircase running through the middle provides safe access to the platforms above. The tower has been built upon high ground, therefore increasing your horizon of the continuous primary forest extending out towards the Tambopata National Reserve. From here views of mixed species canopy flocks as well as toucans, macaws and raptors are likely.
Mammal Clay Lick
Twenty minutes walking from Refugio Amazonas is a peccary clay lick. These wild rain forest pigs show up in herds of five to twenty individuals to eat clay in the late morning. Chances of spotting them are around 15%, but well worth the short hike. Other wildlife also shows up including deer, guan and parakeets.
Brazil Nut Trail and Camp
A few minutes hike from the lodge is a beautiful old growth patch of Brazil Nut forest that has been harvested for decades (if not centuries) where the precarious remains of a camp used two months a year by Brazil Nut gatherers can still be experienced. We will be demonstrating the whole process of the rain forest's only sustainably harvested product from collection through transportation to drying.
Kayaking
Paddle up a portion of the Tambopata River that presents no difficulty. At the shores you will observe fragmented parts of the forest accompanied by nature sounds and some wildlife you might observe, like birds, caimans and turtles. To finish your experience, you´ll stop on a sandy beach and take a well deserved bath. Swimming knowledge is required. Overnight at Tambopata Refugio Amazonas. |

Day 9
Cusco Cuscowas the former capital of the Inca Empire (founded AD 1100). The city today is a fascinating mix of Inca and colonial Spanish architecture and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983. Almost every central street has remnants of Inca walls, arches and doorways that serve as the foundation for the colonial and modern buildings. Narrow alleys of whitewashed houses with sky-blue and bottle-green shutters open out onto elegant squares with stone-hewn fountains and elegant restaurants and posadas (inns). Colorful murals depicting historical scenes can be seen on countless walls, and indigenous women with braids and embroidered shawls set up makeshift stalls selling woven blankets and handmade crafts and jewelry. The elegant Plaza de Armas, or main square, is lined with arcades and houses with ornately carved wooden balconies and terracotta tiled roofs. You wil be met at the hotel lobby by our local representative, and transferred by private vehicle and professional driver from your hotel in the Sacred Valley to the Ollantaytambo Train Station. Once you get to the train station together with your guide, you will board the Vistadome train for a 2 hour journey to the ancient ruins at Machu Picchu. Before reaching Machu Picchu, the train travels along the Urubamba River, with awe-inspiring views of the dramatic canyon.
*Note: When you board the train to visit Machu Picchu with overnight, bring only a small bag with you. Due to limited storage space on the train, passengers are asked to bring only one small piece of luggage. The rest of your luggage will be stored safely at your hotel and returned to you either in Cuzco or Sacred Valley. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will board the bus (shared service) up to Machu Picchu. The bus ride takes 30 minutes and once you get there you will enjoy a private guided tour of Machu Picchu. The Inca Citadel lies between Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu (“Young Peak” and “Old Peak”). The Inca Pachacutec built the Citadel using sharp stone blocks, fitted together perfectly. Houses, temples, a public square are all connected by narrow roads and steps cut into the mountainside. There are many theories as to the purpose of Machu Picchu; a temple to the sun? A fortress against jungle inhabitants? A sanctuary for the Incas? The mysterious lost city awaits you!
After the tour, enjoy a leisurely lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge. Afterwards, take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes. Board the Vistadome Valley train and depart for Ollantaytambo, on your own (no guide). The 2 hour journey descends from the highest point of the journey into the Sacred Valley and the foothills of the Andes. Enjoy views of the Urubamba River, with a backdrop of the dramatic canyon. Enjoy a private transfer with a local representative from Ollantaytambo train station to your hotel in Cuzco. Approximate transfer time is 2 hours.
