Animals, Adrenaline & African Culture

When asked to come up with an extreme action packed safari for a small group of adrenaline junkies/outdoor enthusiasts, all of our African Destination Experts jumped at the chance.  Nothing is more fun than a challenge and creating this private guided, multi-country action safari certainly was an adventure in itself.  Read about this sporty safari below and by end of it even you will be exhausted!

This 2010 safari expedition isn’t for the average traveler as it takes adventurers out of their 4X4’s and has them travel by foot, boats and planes into the true heart of Africa.  Experience her intense cultural history; awe inspiring natural beauty and the most majestic living creatures our planet has to offer on this 14 day - 4-country adventure tour.

Before trekking through the wilds, travelers will spend a day in Rwanda’s capital Kigali.  Take a glimpse into the world of a people whose society was changed forever during the 1994 Rwandan genocides.  Honour them and their loved ones as you visit the memorials, monuments and centers dedicated to the hundreds of thousands who lost their lives.

Adventurers will then travel high up for 2 days in the rainforest of Virunga Mountain, which lies in the breathtaking Park des Volcanoes. Take an eco trek through the ancient volcano mountains in search of endangered Mountain Gorillas and Golden Monkeys.  From Kigali you’ll fly to Johannesburg for a night, then onto the Victoria Falls where you’ll stay in Livingstone, the adventure capital of Africa.  Adrenaline enthusiasts will enjoy the broad array of activities available from ultralight flights and helicopter rides to white water rafting, bungee jumping, elephant-tours, horseback riding, motor biking and more.  For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground the trip includes sunset cruises, falls tours, white rhino safaris and a visit to Semonga Village exposing you to the customs, crafts and gastronomic delights of the region.

At this point our travelers head to the seas, or in this case the Selinda Spillway.  Fly to Botswana where you’ll continue your safari by canoe on the highest waters the river has seen in 30 years.  You’ll take a leisurely 3-day 70 km paddling adventure, breaking only at night to sleep in a traditional dome tent.  Be sure to bring along a really good camera for the dramatic pictures of elephants, hippos, red crocodiles, lions, leopards and antelopes you’ll capture along the way.

After this bid goodbye to your boat and enjoy relaxing at a luxury camp on the banks of the Spillway.  After resting for a day, travelers will fly to Cape Town, South Africa’s oldest city.  Enjoy walking the markets, streets, houses of Parliament, renowned museums and the city’s famous Table Mountain before departing on your last adventure.  This time the journey commences at Boulders Beach, the only land-breeding site of the African Penguin.  Kayak amongst these incredible little birds, seals, whales and more before heading home from what eclipses any other “trip of a lifetime.”

A powerful mix of Africa’s past and present; this extreme adrenaline adventure includes internal airfare, deluxe lunches per itinerary, private vehicle transfers, expert English-speaking guides, activities and entrance fees.  What makes this action tour even appealing and accessible is Kensington’s ability to customize your experience to a wide range of budgets offering property from 3, 4 and 5 stars.  Clients can modify their vacation with extra activities, and of course embark and return on any date.

This safari is far from standard and you won’t be able to find it as any packaged tour.  Call a Kensington Destination Expert to learn more about this active adrenaline expedition or work with them to create your own extreme African adventure.
