Recently returned from Rio de Janeiro, we asked Karl Kannstadter to add to the growing list. Our South America specialist had an answer that was top of mind, "the Copacabana Palace has become a pop culture icon in its own right".

    Erika Feasts on Peru

24 Jan 2013 / South America Destination Expert
Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Amazon, Lima - the classical Peru itinerary that Erika Linares has become weary of. So when our South America Expert decided to check out Peru for herself, she was determined to dig deeper and explore more places and experiences. Explorer In Residence, Mark Terry, climbs Mount Cotopaxi

    26 Mar 2012 / Compass Editor
I’ve always enjoyed mountain climbing, especially the pay-off of the spectacular view when you reach the summit. Visiting my son Herb in Ecuador recently, we decided to climb Mount Cotopaxi, one of the highest mountains in the Andes standing majestically at nearly 6,000 meters (almost 20,000 feet), on December 25 so we could have a White Christmas at the Equator! Driving to basecamp was quite the ordeal.
