Kensington Tours’ Destination Expert, Aurelie Gilles, suggests that Morocco tours will often highlight the country's timeless beauty through its storied history. Guests wanting to encounter one of Morocco's most unique relics can make the trek to the ruins of the once-great Kasbah of Telouet, a Berber village of traditional grandeur. Sitting just above 5,000 feet in elevation, travelers must hike the winding, dusty paths of the elegant High Atlas Mountains to reach the epic Telouet. With trails moving through patches of bristly brush, lush greenery and towering African palm trees, this rugged, red landscape is truly a feast for the eyes. Upon reaching the kasbah, guests must move about the structure with care. The building's exterior, featuring a mishmash of brick and red earth, is testament enough to the large structure's decapitated state. The expansive walls that do remain, however, give visitors an idea of the kasbah's rich history. Inside, high-ceilinged chambers, intricately tiled beams and well-decorated floors and walls provide even better glimpses of this abandoned relic. Historically said to be such a large complex that no one person knew their way around the kasbah in its entirety, guests can move through apartments, main halls and reception rooms, but should take care not to get lost in this architectural maze. No trip is complete, however, without a visit to the kasbah's roof. Tiled with the green hue usually reserved only for mosques, both the views and elegant touches of this building are perfectly encapsulated from this vista.
