For many travelers going on a Peru tour and even South America, a visit to the ancient city of Machu Picchu and the epic Inca Trail leading up to it is a must-do. On their recent trip to Peru's legendary ancient civilization, the Thoene family braved the 4 day hike across the trail and onto the breathtaking views of Machu Picchu.
Greg, Andrea, Jack, Caitlyn, Cindy, and Max started off their journey in Lima and the marvels of the Sacred Valley before taking on the arduous and awe-inspiring trek. From hanging out with locals and lamas to exploring crumbling ruins and taking plenty of fun pictures all along the way, the Thoenes enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime trip led by seasoned private guide.
While the Inca Trail can be an incredibly daunting hike to accomplish, the Thoenes were able to forget about their stress and truly enjoy the legendary trail thanks to their skilled porters and guide, Edgar.
To say Edgar is an experienced hiker would be an understatement; his journey with the Thoene family marked his 670th hiking the trail! "He was professional, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable," says Cindy. "Thanks to Edgar's expert guidance, attentiveness and motivation, we successfully reached the highest point on the trail at nearly 14,000 feet!"
After completing the famed trek and earning the bragging rights for doing so, the Thoenes spent time exploring Aguas Calientes and Cusco, the heart of the once mighty Inca empire. They returned home elevated by unforgettable memories and crossing this life-changing experience off their bucket list.
