Longyearbyen is a Norwegian settlement often referred to as the capital of Svalbard. This is a lively small town, situated amid some incredible Arctic landscape.
Today you'll join a sightseeing coach tour of Longyearbyen and its surroundings before being transferred to port for embarkation of your ship.

Once underway, you set course for the Russian settlement of Barentsburg, featuring an exotic collection of Russian artifacts and architecture. This town was built in 1935 around the entrance to the coral mine.
M/S Fram is named after the ship used by famous Norwegian Explorer Fridtjof Nansen, M/S Fram’s interior has been inspired by Greenland and the Arctic region; with a glass-enclosed observation lounge and excellent leisure facilities including a gym, sauna and two heated outdoor Jacuzzis. M/S Fram is a purpose built 12,700-ton vessel that incorporates all the best of both practical and traditional design. Items of the original Fram are also be displayed throughout the vessel, linking the present MS Fram with the rich history of its illustrious past.
The landscape of Hornsund is largely alpine with the majestic Hornsundtinden mountain soaring highest of all. Let your imagination run wild while spending the day in these extraordinary surroundings.
In Bellsund, you will attempt to land on either Ahlstrands peninsula or in Calypsobyen. Later you may sail towards the beautiful Vårsolbukta, named after the motor cutter “Vaarsol” that was used by the Norwegian Svalbard Expedition in 1914.
Kongsfjord is the largest fjord on the northwest coast of Spitsbergen. The landscape varies from large tundra plains to alpine peaks with dramatic glaciers calving into the ocean. At 78º 55’N, Ny-Ålesund is the world’s northernmost permanently inhabited community, where a number of countries run their own national research stations. Activity here is particularly high in the summer.
Woodfjord and Liefdefjord, large fjords in north Spitsbergen, are striking in varied landscape. You will cruise towards the Monaco glacier, passing a number of small islets where eider ducks nest during the summer. If you are lucky we might spot a polar bear searching for eggs.
Ice conditions permitting, the plan is to cross the 80th parallel and explore a landing site on the North-West corner of Spitsbergen National Park. If you're lucky, you will spot some of the larger species using these waters as hunting grounds. Keep your eyes open for walrus, whales and polar bears. You also hope to reach Moffen, a high latitude islet at 80°N housing a walrus colony and bird sanctuary. The atoll-like shape of the island made it a perfect safe harbour for any early whalers caught in bad weather.
In central Spitsbergen, Isfjord is the largest fjord system in Svalbard. One of the most prominent mountains here is Alkhornet, where thousands of Brünnich’s guillemots nest during the summer season. In the afternoon your Expedition Team will search for a fitting bay where you can make your last expedition landing and later wrap things up with some onboard festivities.
