Meet your private guide and transportation at the port this morning, and depart on a full day tour in St. Petersburg, beginning with a three hour sightseeing tour, complete with photo stops and plenty of commentary along the way. This will give you a great introduction to the city founded by Russian tsar, Peter the Great. Midday, you’ll continue to the Peter and Paul Fortress for a visit of the compound. It was the city’s first citadel, built in 1703, set to protect St. Petersburg from any attacking forces. In the afternoon, you’ll visit St. Isaac Cathedral, the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral in the city, completed in the mid-1800’s. From there, you’ll continue to the Church of Spilled Blood, an incredibly ornate and colorful structure, built where Tsar Alexander II was assassinated. You’ll be brought to Nevsky Prospect, the main street in St. Petersburg, for a nice walk and some shopping time. Afterward, you’ll be returned to your ship.
Set out again today with a private guide and transportation, driving to the town of Peterhof, where you’ll get to experience the Peterhof Palace, an incredible complex designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The complex, ordered by Peter the Great, houses a series of impressive palaces, gardens, and the Grand Cascade, an impressive fountain with golden figures lining its steps. Later in the afternoon, you’ll visit the town of Pushkin, the Tsar’s village, which is home to the Catherine Palace and Alexander Palace, both monuments protected by UNESCO. Visit and learn about these beautiful summer residences of the Russian tsars before returning back to port to conclude your tour.
Meeting at the ship, you’ll depart this morning for your private guided tour. You’ll be driven to Yusupov Palace, constructed along the edge of the Moika River. This was once the primary residence of the House of Yusupov in St. Petersburg, and also the site of Grigori Rasputin’s murder in 1916, sparking the Russian Revolution. You’ll tour the palace before breaking for lunch (not included). Your tour will start up again with a visit to the Hermitage Museum, one of the oldest and largest museums in the world, with nearly three million items, preserving both art and culture. The collection is spread across six historic buildings, one of which is the massive green and gold Winter Palace, former residence of Russian emperors. After your visit, you’ll be returned to port by your driver.
