Cava & Wine Tastings (3 Wineries, 8 hrs)

With your private vehicle and guide, depart the cruise port and set off on an exciting day in the wine country of Penedes. Drive for an hour from Barcelona to the Penedès wine region where the tradition of wine and cava production comes from the Phoenician times. Since the 19th century plenty of the Chateaux style estates (like Codorniu and Freixenet) began to export their traditional method sparkling Cava wines (made in the same way as Champagne). In the last few decades, the Penedès has produced high quality red wines with pioneering Miguel Torres and Jean Leon with cult wines “Mas la Plana” and “Zemis”. The region is home to hundreds of wineries, from enormous “Modernista” (similar to Art Noveau) cellars to small boutique wineries, nearly all family owned. The population is mostly scattered around small villages and large farmhouses, and Vilafranca del Penedès and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia are the main towns. The countryside is almost entirely covered by vineyards. Admiring the scenery of this beautiful rural region along the way, you will have the opportunity to visit three reference cellars of Penedes and a tasting a each, being guided through the process and secrets of wine making, from the grape to the bottle.
