The Grand Hotel San Pietro (5*) is the product of two travel-fascinated sisters who shared a love for the island of Sicily. As the only Relais & Chateaux in Sicily, this quiet and beautifully maintained retreat located a few minutes walk from the centre of Taormina town, is encapsulated by the glorious Sicilian flora that flourishes in this part of the world. Breathtaking views can be enjoyed over the Mediterranean seas and out to the ‘Isola Bella’ (beautiful island), a small emerald promontory that can only be reached at low-tide via a connecting bridge.
You will be picked up by your jeep and driver directly from you hotel to start your full day excursions up to Mt. Etna at 2,000 meter altitude. With your guide you will take the cable cart up to 2,700 meters and further to 2,900 meters (if permitted based on the status of the volcano) to see the crater. Your guide will show you secondary craters as well. You will then drive toward the Valley del Bole and its beautiful nature allowing you to explore a cave for approximately 20 minutes equipped with helmet to be followed by approximately 45 minute hiking. Take a fast Jetfoil from Millazo to Lipari.
Welcome aboard! You're greeted by your captain and crew, and provided with a welcome cocktail and dinner on board your private yacht.
Afterward, you'll have free time to visit the village of Lipari, partly distributated around its 16th century castle, the acropolis of the ancient Greek and Roman city, which rises majestically with gigantic bastions overlooking the sea.
Your captain will then sail you to a nearby bay with crystal clear waters where you can enjoy a nice refreshing swim before returning to Lipari. Overnight in Milazo.
The Italian-built Akhir 25 S yacht underwent an extensive 6-month renovation in 2010, completely renewing the facilities of this premium yacht. At nearly 27m in length, the yacht's 4 staterooms accommodate up to 9 guests in total on a private charter, in addition to a captain and crew of up to 2. Sleek lines and a modern interior, you'll be cruising the waters of the Mediterranean in style.
This morning you'll set sail to explore the wild north coast of Lipari, stopping at the unique pumice beach, and heading toward the port of Salina, with a stop for a swim prior to anchoring at port. You can buy some of the local capers packed in salt, or purchase some of the famous Malvasia delle Lipari wine. Or, as Salina has the highest mountain in the islands at 950m (3,130 ft) and numerous hiking trails, you may prefer a vigorous hike.
Today you'll sail along the south coast of Salina, and take a break to swim within the beautiful scenery of the Bay of Pollara (often used as a backdrop for films). After an afternoon siesta, you'll navigate to Filicudi, mooring at Pecorini, the smallest village of the island.
Set sail toward Alicudi, one of the smallest islands of the Aeolian archipelago, where your captain will anchor you off some nice bay or beach for a refreshing swim. In the evening, you'll arrive back to the port of Filicudi.
After onboard breakfast, you'll head to Panarea, stopping to enjoy one of the many coves around the island before lunch. In the afternoon, you'll land at a quaint village on Panarea for some time at leisure. Panarea has of late become known as the "jet-set" island, with the rich and famous making it the place to be. Despite its tiny size, the island is the most picturesque in the chain, with its stark white houses and brilliant yellow ginestra bushes. You'll find an extraordinarily well preserved Bronze Age village site to explore.
This morning you'll depart Panarea for Stromboli, with a view of the Sciara del Fuoco on the northwestern side of the volcano during the day. You'll have a swim break in the afternoon before a walk in the village of San Vincenzo. You'll sail at night for another view of Sciara del Fuoco, where an eruption occurs every 15-20 minutes.
After breakfast, you'll sail to Vulcano, where according to mythology, the island was the workplace of the god of fire and blacksmiths, Hephaestus. It is studded with fantastic formations, both above ground and underwater. The nooks and crannies are teeming with rainbow colored fish and anemones. You'll enjoy some marvelous swimming and snorkeling, with the possibility to bath in thermal pools. The afternoon will provide a circumnavigation of the island, followed by a free evening in town.
After breakfast, you'll sail back to Milazo on Lipari, where you'll disembark from your ship, and bid farewell to the captain and crew.
