Day 2
Tarangire From Arusha, your guide will drive you to the Tarangire National Park. This commute takes 1 and a half hours to complete.
Enjoy lunch (included in tour price). On this afternoon drive you will notice the unusually shaped baobab trees, also known as the “upside-down tree”. Look up and you might find the tree climbing African pythons. This is one of the world's largest species of snakes, but do not worry, it is also a non-venomous species. Enjoy dinner (included in tour price). Swala Camp is buried in the core of Tarangire National Park, beside the Gurusi wetlands of Tanzania and where sprees of elephants and bird life spend their time. The private, permanent tents are structured to fit the comfort of home and suit the indulgences of vacation. Lavish safari-style travel is embraced here, as full silver service is provided at meals and superior wines mark the ambiance of fine dining. Tarangire National Park is probably one of the least visited of the northern Tanzanian game parks, and retains a real air of undiscovered Africa, particularly in the south of the park. Just a two hours drive away from Arusha, it lies a short distance to the south east of Lake Manyara and covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometres. It is named after the Tarangire River that flows through the park.

Here, one may feast on cuisine from the American chef’s world-knowledge. Activities include game drives involving visits to the Ngorongoro Crater. "The Ngorongoro Crater is often called ‘Africa’s Eden’ and the ‘8th Natural Wonder of the World’. Large herds of zebra, buffalo, antelope and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist.

Serengeti You will have a private guide throughout your stay at Singita. Enjoy lunch (included in tour price). Spend today searching out Impala, one of Africa's most beautiful and graceful animals. Previously thought to be part of the gazelle tribe, Impalas have been found to be so different that they are now classified as their own sub-family status. When frightened or startled the whole impala herd starts randomly leaping to confuse their predator. They can jump distances more than 10 meters (33 ft) and 3 meters (9 ft) high. Leopards, cheetah, lions and wild dogs prey on impala. Impala can reach running speeds of approximately 50 to 55 mph (80 to 90 km/h) to escape its predators. See if you can track these incredible animals! Enjoy dinner (included in tour price). Overnight at Singita Sabora Tented Camp.

Day 9
Selous Airport transfer with private vehicle. Take your flight from Dar Es Salaam (DAR) to Selous today. The flight duration is approximately 45mins. Enjoy lunch (included in tour price). With the departure of the seasonal rains (summer) and the onset of the dry season (winter), the environment becomes progressively drier. In response, wildlife concentrates along the Chi, Lukula and Luwego Rivers. The dry conditions allow for easy navigation throughout the entire Lukula Selous area, both by vehicle and foot. Vegetation is low, and water is limited, providing easy spotting. Walking along the river's sandy embankments, crossing from side to side gives unrivaled access to tracking. Fly camping (4 night stay) is at its prime in this season, with predictable weather. All camp facilities and activities are available. From August to early November, canoeing is dependent on water levels and can be limited.
Enjoy dinner (included in tour price). Lukula Camp embodies the spirit of early African exploration, but with simple indulgences. It draws from the influences of Frederick Courteney Selous' camps of bygone days. He and his contemporaries would have found home and comfort here - a place to renew their spirits, document their discoveries and continue their intrepid ways. It is in this vein, that guests are welcomed into the stylish and authentic retreat of Lukula Camp.
Only 200 km West of Dar es Salaam lies the mighty Selous Game Reserve, one of Africa’s least known yet wildest conservation areas. At an unbelievable 55,000 sq km Selous is almost twice the size of Belgium and four times larger than the famous Serengeti in the North, covering 5% of Tanzania’s land area. The Selous’ ecosystem as a whole is made up of a few conservation areas, namely Mikumi in the North and the Kilombero game controlled area in the West, covering in total over 90,000 sq km of pristine wilderness devoid of human influence.
Fed by the mighty Rufiji River, the largest river in East Africa which drains most of South Western Tanzania’s water, this reserve is home to over 1,000,000 large animals and is home to over half of Tanzania’s elephant population. Selous is unique among reserves in Tanzania as it encompasses an area exclusively devoted to tourism in its Northern part, making up for about 10% of the reserve’s total size.
Selous has over 2,100 species of plants, 350 species of birds, 60,000 elephant, 108,000 buffalos and an estimated 1,300 of the worlds’ approximately 4,000 remaining rare wild dogs giving guests an opportunity to glimpse all of these exotic animals in true unspoilt wilderness.

Today, by foot, 4x4 and canoe, you set out to let the whims of the day dictate the experience. You may find Nyasa wildebeest dashing in the open plains, and decide to track them on foot, getting within mere feet of the herd. You may build a hide, and wait it out for the breeding herd of elephant to come to the water's edge. Or perhaps, hike along the rocky ridges absorbing the sheer magnitude of this grand wilderness. But then, you see fresh buffalo spoor and the tracking is on. You are led, by your experienced guide and Lukula Selous team, along the trail until, there it is, a herd 100 strong grazing on the sweet grass of the savanna.

Day 11
Selous Lukula Selous is a private photographic sanctuary of over 300,000 acres that specialises in experiential travel – authentic life changing adventures in Africa’s last great untouched wilderness – the Selous Game Reserve which is 55,000 sq. kms in Southern Tanzania. The weather and environment in Lukula is a constant cycle of dry and wet characterised by two periods of rain that bless the land each year. The short rains usually arrive in December and are quick to fade in January. The long rains commence in mid to late February staying through to early April. The Reserve comprises diverse habitat from open flood plains interspersed with dense riparian forests that lie along the Lukula, Luwegu and Chi rivers to open savanna, which recedes to forested, rolling hills and steep ridges of exposed rock. A landscape seldom visited and unchanged by man, rich in wildlife and spectacular with nature. Wildlife sighted in the area are Elephant, Buffalo, Impala, Waterbuck, Greater Kudu, Klipspringer, Eland, Hippo, Nile Crocodile, Lion, Wild dog, Leopard, Sable, Bush Duiker and exceptional birdlife with sightings of Pel’s Fishing owl, Wattled crane, Palm nut vulture common as well as a plethora of more common species, a total of 350 recorded to date. The Selous Project’s safari experience is completely unique. There is no fixed itinerary. An idea shared at the dinner table or an inspiration at the dawn of day, will provide the spark for your next adventure. Enjoy dinner (included in tour price). Overnight at Lukula Camp.
