Akosombo is a small town located in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region of Ghana. Akosombo is close to the Adome Bridge at Atimpoku. The town is best known for the Akosombo Dam, a hydroelectric dam on the Volta River. The construction of the dam flooded part of the Volta River Basin, subsequently creating Lake Volta, the world’s largest man-made lake spanning 8,502 square kilometres.
