Sabuk Lodge is a stunning wilderness destination, perched on the high banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the Northern Laikipia District, overlooking a beautiful elephant adorned bushy landscape and the rushing rocky waters below. The 6 open sided thatched cottages with open frontage are stunningly designed with local woods and stone. Four poster beds swathed in cotton nets &huge sun loungers on each verandah are terrific for those who just wish to relax. Meals are served in the spacious dining room, and the option of bush meals is available as well. Activities are very liberating at this rustic getaway, where one may jump into the earthy river and take a swim, and later dry off while fishing from the same waters.
Sabuk meaning buffalo is a remote luxury lodge in Laikipia overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River at a picturesque gorge. Sabuk lodge is set in 1500 acres which is home to a variety of wildlife including giraffe, zebra, leopard, elephants, antelope and wild dog. You can go for game drives day or night; however the main reason for coming to Sabuk is to enjoy the wilderness either on foot, with horses or camels. You can also go fishing, swim in the river and visit a Laikipiak Maasai Village in the nearby community group ranch. If you are here for a few days, you may want to stay out fly-camping for a night or two. One of the excellent Samburu guides will ensure that you see the best of what this region has to offer.
The lodge has 6 beautifully furnished open sided ensuite cottages, plus the exclusive Eagle Cottages a family unit which consists of 2 separate bedrooms ensuite, a large sitting/dining room and private plunge pool. Both the lodge rooms and the cottage have their own fabulous views. Sabuk was fashioned out of the local landscape, built with local materials, twisted wood and stone boulders incorporated into the architecture. Open fronted and private veranda’s face out over the river gorge 150 feet below.
There is a cozy main living area with lounge and dining room looking out on to the same awe-inspiring landscape. Meals can be taken in the style of bush cuisine by choice, but also in western style. Also enjoy taking sundowners while watching the sun set.
Owned by a professional guide, the Sabuk’s emphasis is on a complete safari experience that is fun, intellectually stimulating, guided bush walks camel assisted walking safaris and anything from 1 morning up to 2 weeks. Guests staying at the Lodge can enjoy a full camel safari or half and full day bush walks with camels led by trained Laikipia Maasai guides across the hills. . Other activities include game drives, night drives, and by arrangement horse riding. Also try the river line fishing or swimming, fly camping, and swimming pool.
