The gardens seem to beckon and the fig trees become ones guide to this most blissful island’s treats and feast on locally grown produce and fresh fish. Later, take a day trip fishing for giant Victoria perch’s or stay back and simply relax on your private verandah sunbed.
Lake Victoria is the setting for a perfect holiday and gets you away from everything. It’s the world’s second largest freshwater lake and the lake is rich in fish and bird life.The deep blue waters support an abundant ecosystem and its shores are lined with groves of banana trees and fishing villages where you’ll always be greeted with a friendly smile and a wave.The chance to catch the giant Nile perch draws many and some come for the abundant birds, fish eagles, kingfishers and pelicans.Above all Mfangano Island Camp is an ideal place just to relax, swim, fish, read and feel yourself a million miles from anywhere.
Mfangano Island Camp has six double-bedded cottages situated right on the lakeshore. Each room has been built in the Luo tribal style, with banana thatch and natural clay.The rooms are light and airy with four-poster beds and there is also a " horizon " swimming pool located right on the lake shore. Mfangano Island Camp has a stunning honeymoon suite if you are looking for something very special and from your bed you have almost a 360 degree view of Lake Victoria.
The meals at Mfangano Island Camp are superb. Fresh salads and the daily catch of Nile Perch are served overlooking the lake with freshly made bread and chilled wine. You can enjoy your cuisine and listen to the birds sing all day on Mfangano Island.
Mfangano Island Camp is a tranquil retreat on an island with no vehicles, where transport is by colourful local canoes. It offers a perfect place to relax and unwind, either at the beginning or the end of your safari.Activities include birdwatching, cultural walks, watersports or go fishing for the Nile Perch and Tilapia. You could also visit the caves containing pre-historic rock art and Nyakweri Primary School and village.
