Kiwayu Safari Village is located on the Kenya mainland in the most remote coast of the Kiunga Marine Reserve about 30 miles north of Lamu Island, in a breathtakingly beautiful bay opposite Kiwayu Island. Nestled amid the mainland dunes, the oasis of Kiwayu Safari Village lies to the north of a sheltered lagoon facing the island of Kiwayu.
Your banda (cottage) is one of 18 spread along one kilometer of the sandy shoreline, built with great imagination, in the local Swahili tradition of palm thatch and woven matting floors. The only sound you will hear is the lapping of the sea, the wind in the palms and bird song. Your banda consists of a suite containing a spacious bedroom, a dressing area with twin basins, a shower with solar heated hot water and bidet. Electrical lights are 24 hours . Each private thatched veranda offers you panoramic views across the lagoon from the comfort of your Swahili bed or hammock… and only a stone’s throw from the water. Every room is furnished with a super king-size bed surrounded by an ample mosquito net and decorated with local furniture for comfort and relaxation.

Enjoy anything from seafood to Italian at the Kiwayu Safari Village. Charcoal-grilled lobster with tarragon sauce, giant mangrove crab kalaloo or crab with fresh basil from our fragrant garden, red snapper, rock cod, tuna, sushi mi with wasabi, sweet rock oysters and other shell delicacies are typical at Kiwayu. All fruits and vegetables are purchased from local farms.
Mangrove trips by small motorised canoes are the perfect way to see the bird life. Boat trips can be arranged to visit the old town of Lamu (a World Heritage Site). Snorkeling off the coral heads is at its best from November to March. You are taken to the reef by boat close by to the lodge .We take you to various coral heads which are home to the beautifully coloured tropical fish. Kiwayu bay is perfect for windsurfing, swimming or sailing, while the adjacent north bay is perfect for body boarding. You can water ski in the sheltered mangrove channels or go exploring the channels by kayak. Enjoy the thrill of deep sea fishing on our boat “Elusive” accompanied by our expert fishing crew. Try your hand at fly-fishing - one of the most exhilarating sports and a must for all keen fly-fishermen.
