Lamu in Kenya is a must-visit place on your trip to Africa and it is considered as one of the top holiday destinations in the world. Recognized by UNESCO as the oldest and best preserved Swahili settlement in East Africa, Lamu Old Town is the oldest existing in Kenya and it has still retained its ages-old charm and character. Lamu Town dates back to the 12th century and is known for its Swahili architecture, narrow street, busy markets, men wearing embroidered hats, women dressed in full-length black bui-buis, white-sailed dhows gliding across the blue water, one car and over 3,000 donkeys.
Designed and built to reflect Lamu’s heritage tradition, a subtle fusion of African, Indian, Asian, Arab (primarily Omani) and Portuguese influences, The Majlis Hotel and Resort is a beach hotel, which combines 25 superbly appointed luxury suites built with Western comforts and local tradition.
