Nestled in a river glade in the Masai Mara Game Reserve, the area is a favourite for elephants coming to drink from the Talek River. Ilkeliani is an eco-friendly permanent tented camp, centrally located in the Masai Mara. Camp environs have been intentionally preserved to feel as close as possible to nature. Ilkeliani has 17 tents with each guest tent positioned on the edge of the Talek River looking out onto the Masai Mara Plains. Each tent is structured for privacy, spaciousness and the necessities of contentment. All tents are en-suite with private flush toilets and remarkable 24 hour water facilities. Lighting is generated by solar power. Dining is taken outdoors under a tent or as a bush meal. Snacks and appetizers are handed out around the campfire and tea is regularly served with snacks between meals. The camp makes a perfect base for your safari adventure.
The Masai Mara Game Reserve is made up of a vast area of undulating grassy plains intersected by the Mara River and its tributaries. The big five - elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard can all be spotted in this reserve. At Ilkeliani enjoy your Masai Mara safari experience at your own pace, no rushing around game drives and no strict meal times.
Personal attention and care is prized at the camp. Ilkeliani has 17 tents; each guest tent is large and airy with secluded veranda’s offering magnificent views of the Masai Mara Plains. Lighting is provided by solar power and all tents are en-suite with flush toilets and hot water showers 24 hours. Tents are well spaced out, ensuring guests have maximum privacy. The tented rooms are raised up slightly on earth mounds, overlooking the river and the plains. Each one has been sited under its own cluster of shady indigenous trees and you do feel like you are out in the wilderness.

The camp includes a large bar and lounge area, as well as a dining space, also covered by the tent. The staff provide an early morning wake up call which includes tea and coffee. Tea is also served in the afternoon and sundowners take place with camp fire nibbles. Otherwise, meals consist of fine cuisine. All meals are prepared by the camps chefs, offering hearty breakfasts, alfresco lunches and candle light dinners in the Mess Tent. Picnic breakfast/ lunches are prepared if you prefer to stay out and explore the reserve all day long. A camp fire is lit from 6 pm onwards and the safari experience is shared with fellow guests while enjoying a tusker and drinks.
Enjoy daily game drives or spend the day in the park. The camp's Resident Naturalist conducts daily nature walks along the Talek River and guests can identify different animal spoors and spot the diverse birdlife in the camps extensive grounds. Excursions to the Masai village are encouraged to enrich ones appreciation of the Maasai culture.The Masai people can be found dotted in red shuka’s, walking the parks and they roam freely with the wild animals. Learn more about the Masai people with the Masai Naturalist, who conducts nature walks and cultural talks (no charge). Take in one of the worlds marvels, the Great Wildebeest and Zebra Migration, early July - September. During other months of the year you will spot herds of elephant and the big five are abundant in this Game Reserve.
