Because of the warm climate, Samburu Intrepids’ public areas are all palm-thatched and open to the elements, raised on stilts to catch the cooling breeze blowing off the river. Cuisine consists of bush breakfasts, sundowners and starlit dinners, either under breezy thatched dining areas overlooking the river or in the great outdoors, surrounded by fresh air. Intrepids also boasts a spacious lounge and bar area, where our naturalists deliver fascinating slideshows on most evenings, and an intimate conference room with a television for viewing wildlife documentaries. Behind the bar, surrounded by a shady sunbathing area, is our freeform swimming pool - a soothing drop of blue in this otherwise arid land.
The lodge and its activities include a lounge and bar with nightly talks and slide shows on culture and wildlife, freeform 'oasis' swimming pool and sunbathing garden, boutique with souvenirs and safari essentials, professional flex body therapy for half- or one-hour, twice-daily game drives with resident guides, tours of Samburu villages and 'bush secrets', traditional dances by local warriors and maidens, and Heritage's famous Adventurers' Club for the kids. Also available are: nature walks, cultural visits, and camel rides (additional cost).
