The Gorillas Nest Lodge is situated in Ruhengeri, at the base of the Virunga Mountains and near Kinigi Park Headquarters. The lodge is ideally positioned for those who want to watch animals in their habitat, specifically the endangered Rwanda Mountain Gorillas that still roam these areas. With 20 double rooms and 2 suites, the Gorillas Nest welcomes guests from the world round to take part in the fascinating gorilla tracking activities. Share in the cuisine of Rwanda, which is served with the hospitality for which we all return to African countries. Take walks, learn more about the gorillas, and absorb the gorgeous surrounding landscape.
Gorillas Nest Lodge is located 2 kms west of the Kinigi Park Headquarters. The lodge is in a lovely rural setting and ideally situated near the park headquarters for each mornings registration process. There is no electricity in Kinigi, so the lodge operates off a generator.
A semi-circle of 20 double rooms & 2 suites have been built accordingly to overlook the centralized garden. The rooms also face outwards into the Eucalyptus forest, pyrethrum farms and shambas (farms) beyond which provide a stunning view. The Lodge is well constructed, but utilitarian: with grass thatched roofs in traditional Rwandese style - not the "rustic luxury safari" style of East and Southern Africa. Rooms are cozy and comfortable, with VIP rooms being more spacious.
See Above Description.
The large thatched dining and lounge area is attractive with an open concept that can get chilly at times, so make sure to pack some warm clothes for the evening. Log fires are normally lit to counter the cold. Lunchtime buffets are scrumptious, as are the three-course dinners and the plentiful breakfasts for those heading out on a gorilla tracking trip. The restaurant can get lively, as can the bar. Some evenings, there is live music or traditional dancing.
The lodge offers regular treks to check out the gorillas. Nearby is a traditional Rwandese homestead for visitors to visit in their leisure time or after Gorilla trekking. Other activities include bird viewing, mountain hikes, and cultural excurisions to local villages.
