The Residence

The Residence is located in the historic suburb of Houghton, which is also home to many famous residents including former President Nelson Mandela. The Residence exudes a charming air of quiet dignity, with an abundance of bougainvillea blossoms cascading down the terraced gardens.  On arrival at The Residence, you are greeted warmly and graciously before being shown around the guest areas on the ground floor. There is an immediate awareness of the sophisticated splendor of the interior and an all-pervading atmosphere of total tranquility. The entrance hall leads through to the sumptuous lounge and sitting room with plush furnishings inviting carefree relaxation for all seasons. A cozy log fire is lit in the fireplace on chilly days, while doors opening onto the long, spacious veranda offer a cool respite from the warm African sun. Guests are welcome to take a stroll through the manicured gardens and enjoy a game of tennis or swim a few lengths in the large outdoor pool. Arrangements can also be made for guests to work out at a nearby gymnasium or play a round of golf on the Houghton Golf Course.

    Luxury Room

    Each opulent room has been individually designed and tastefully decorated to please the discerning few who are fortunate enough to experience these sumptuous surroundings. These air-conditioned rooms are generously proportioned and designed for ultimate comfort and privacy. The king size extra-length beds with mattress tops and king size pillows of exquisitely soft goose down are dressed with fine Egyptian cottons and are turned down for your convenience in the evening. With spacious balconies, tables, chairs and sun loungers shaded by large sun umbrellas, you can sit back and take in the views of the garden, tennis court and pool. The en-suite bathrooms are well appointed with underfloor heating, piped music, and bath plus shower, with bespoke amenities as well as bathrobes, slippers and hair-dryer.

        Dining

        Linger over the sumptuous breakfast in the downstairs breakfast area. Enjoy a relaxing lunch on the Koi bridge while gazing out over the herb garden or unwind in front of a crackling fire place when making your dinner selection off the al a carte menu. Then enjoy a night cap at the Piano bar while listening to some classics.

          Sky Bar

          The Sky Bar on the top floor offers spectacular views over the surrounding suburbs and Johannesburg’s renowned urban forest towards the city skyline beyond. What better place to enjoy sundowners while taking in the spectacular African sunsets, or sipping stylish pre-dinner cocktails. The comfortable relaxation areas invite you to lounge away a few hours, interspersed with socializing in the Jacuzzi or cooling off with a refreshing dip in the swimming pool.

            Spa

            On entering the Residence Spa on the second floor, you immediately become aware that this is a serene sanctuary for indulging the senses and soothing the mind, body and soul. The special effects convey an overall ambience of inwardly focused timelessness. The two treatment rooms are built on a suspended wooden deck with the soft, rippling sounds of water running below it. This is your personal time capsule where you can enjoy traditional spa treatments or simply relax and unwind in the sauna and steam room. Breathe deeply, clear your mind, and allow yourself to drift away, as you meditate on filling a time and space where nothing matters except the here and now, and your ultimate wellbeing.
