On the banks of Zululand's Mkuze River, you can find 10 000 hectares of prime game reserve. In Zulu, AmaKhosi means 'The Place of the Kings'; Amakhosi's service, luxury and dramatic surroundings bear testimony to its name. The varied ecosystem of savannah, mountains and wetlands allow for quality Big Five game viewing as well as cheetah, giraffe, warthog, hyena and more than 17 kinds of antelope. The wetlands area is an ideal ecosystem inhabited by crocodile, hippo and over 430 species of birds. Enjoy the "royal treatment"; rates not only include brunch (late breakfast), high tea (late lunch) and dinner, but also include your morning and late afternoon game drives, sundown cocktails in the bush and all local alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Here you will experience the warm hospitality of the settler family descendents who run The Heritage Collection of Game lodges. Come and discover Amakhosi, the land, the history, the people, you will not be disappointed.
Umntwana, means "a child of Royalty" in Zulu. Slip into a nirvana in this ‘private kingdom’ with high thatched ceilings and glass walls. An open-plan design with spacious deck, a private bubble pool and hammock overlooking the river, truly spell ‘royal dwellings’, whilst an air-conditioned bedroom and lounge, fully stocked mini-bar, tea/coffee making facilities and en-suite bathroom made for two, transports lovers into a fantasy world of their own where nothing else matters.
Six luxurious river suites capture nature through ceiling-high windows and private viewing decks across the river. Each suite accommodates two adults with an air conditioned lounge, bedroom, bathroom with a bath for two, separate shower and toilet, safe, bath robes, fully stocked mini-bar and a tea and coffee tray. Built in a shape of a Zulu shield and decorated in a typical Zulu style with a colourful modern touch, all suites are easily accessible from the main lodge.
The style … African Cuisine with a European flair, freshly prepared by the Zulu Chef. Brunch is comprised of an extensive buffet of cold and hot selections prepared with only the freshest of fruits, juices, and cheeses. High tea (late lunch) is traditionally taken in the lounge and is no small affair as it offers homemade meat dishes, vegetable platters, pates, quiches, jams and breads.
Game activities at AmaKhosi are a must! Early morning and late afternoon safaris allow guests the opportunity to observe the ‘Big Five”, nocturnal animals, and the wide variety of flora and fauna in the reserve. All game activities are under the strict supervision of qualified game rangers. For those who prefer to relax at the lodge, take in the scenery and beauty of the nature around you as you recline under the cool thatched patios, in the library, at the swimming pool, or on the game viewing deck. Enjoy a drink, revel in the serenity and unwind at the ladies bar or on the outdoor lounge overlooking the Mkuze River.
