The tented camp has been built in colonial safari-style, best suited for guests who are searching for an authentic safari experience. The new fourteen luxury tents have viewing decks and en-suite canvas bathrooms. Public facilities at the tented camp include an attractive reception area, a curio shop, a new lounge area for guests to relax in, an enhanced dining tent, a 10x5 metre rim-flow pool and a new boma. The old sala was converted into a spa, which is run and managed by Africology. The tented camp is equipped with a generator which will power the luxury tents for a few hours each day so that guests are able to charge cameras and phones in the privacy of their tents. Even when the generators are running, lighting is minimal and the natural atmosphere of the tented camp is enhanced through boma fires and paraffin lanterns.
The main lodge encompasses nine bush villas which offer guests the epitome of self-contained privacy and sheer luxury. Circular in structure and reminiscent of a traditional homestead against a hill, each of the villas boasts a breathtaking view of the surrounding game reserve. 220 m² in size, each villa has its own spacious lounge area and master bedroom with an inter-leading fireplace. A thatched outdoor game-viewing deck (sala) and infinity pool offer refreshing solace from the summer heat. Each of the villas has a full en-suite bathroom complete with an enormous oval shaped bath and indoor and outdoor showers. The villas are all equipped with private bomas for an intimate and romantic dining experience.
The luxury Honeymoon Tent features a king-sized bed in a spacious tented bedroom, and a comfortable separate lounge area for relaxation. The tent is air-conditioned to provide relief from against KwaZulu-Natal's humid summers. The en-suite bathroom has a stunning large oval bath and a double vanity. A highlight of the Honeymoon Tent is the outdoor shower and Jacuzzi which have spectacular panoramic views of the 14 000 hectare reserve. Thanda's tented camp is powered for a few hours each morning and each evening by a generator, enabling guests to charge essentials such as cameras and mobile phone batteries.
A variety of exceptional dining experiences are available at Thanda. The public facilities of the main lodge include a dining room, outdoor dining decks and an outdoor boma. Private dining is available at the bush villas, where meals can be served in the private bomas or the private decks of each villa. A bush breakfast or dinner can be arranged for special occasions. Dining facilities at the safari-style tented camp include an intimate dining tent and a boma.
Winner of the Safari Spa category in the Les Nouvelles Esthetiques Spa Awards 2006, the wellness centre at Thanda Private Game Reserve offers exclusive treatments such as reflexology, aromatherapy, pressure point scalp massage and hot stone massage using African essential oils in a base of shea butter.
