The Oyster Bay Hotel is like staying with friends, in a beautifully large home and garden. The hotel boasts eight luxurious ocean facing guest suites, spacious in the extreme (70 sqm) with luxurious bathrooms, air-conditioned, fabulously furnished in contemporary African style. The suites reflect modern day Africa in a timeless setting – balmy, equatorial, coastal, the essence of Dar es Salaam. You will feel that you are staying somewhere truly special whilst enjoying the many highlights of your holiday. Extensive lounges and terraces overlooking mature gardens, swimming pool and within secure walking distance of the Oyster Bay shopping centre, the Oyster Bay Hotel has it all. The Oyster Bay is located in the centre of the Oyster Bay area of Dar es Salaam facing the ocean on Tourre Drive. It is a fifteen minute drive from the centre of the city and thirty minutes from the airports (domestic and international) depending on the traffic.
Each suite has been designed in a contemporary African scheme that will linger in your mind long after you have left. The accents are on space, comfort, and clean lines, cool and natural colors with a vibrant ‘splash’ here and there to remind you that you are indeed in Africa. Each of the eight spacious ocean facing suites has balconies situated on three floors. There is no lift but the view from the upper levels is certainly worth the exertion of getting there - and of course the ocean breezes are stronger the higher you go. All suites are air conditioned, but also have louvered shutters and cross ventilation for those who do not wish to sleep in air-conditioning. The suites are furnished with either king sized or twin beds and have lounge furnishing as well as writing desks and plasma screen televisions. The ensuite bathrooms are open plan and contain a free-standing bath, walk through shower and enclosed toilet facility.
Just like staying with good friends, everything has been planned around your stay. It does not matter what time you arrive and how long you stay there will always be something appropriate whether it is breakfast, morning coffee and cakes, pre lunch cocktails, lunch, afternoon tea, cocktails or dinner and a night cap.
As with everything else at The Oyster Bay, even the garden has been professionally landscaped. What was once a ‘jungle’ of bamboo, ponds, fountains and cascades with the odd eccentric sculpture of bicycle wheels, and even a VW Beetle on top of a pole has been transformed, by Jo Mayers the landscaper, into a clean and crisp green and white ‘statement’ of contemporary garden design to complement the chic interiors. Of course it would be wrong to remove the giant palms, figs and flamboyant trees that are the heart of this mature garden. But this is a garden to enjoy, so lots of shady deck space, reclining chairs on the sun deck and for the energetic there is a lap pool.
