The aim at Bougainvillea Safari Lodge is to provide guests with something different: Simple homey comforts at a reasonable price. The property, located on the outskirts of Karatu town about midway between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, is home to 24 cozy cottages set within well-manicured gardens. The lodge has very strong community ties, fully staffed by locals who are happy to offer you true Tanzanian hospitality and a warm welcome. There is a large common area building housing reception, lounge, bar, gift shop and dining rooms. The swimming pool sits in the centre of the property surrounded by the cottages and gardens. Bougainvillea Safari Lodge is 300m off the main road running through Karatu, and is accessible by Fly-and-Transfer.

Buffet breakfast consists of cereal, a selection of seasonal fruits, tea and coffee. A waitperson will take your order for eggs, bacon and sausage, and local porridge is available for you to try. The famous buffet lunch is served daily and once a week African specialities are featured. If you’ll be out on safari for lunchtime, you’ll depart with a specially prepared lunch box. Dinner is served at the table. This is a five-course event beginning with a starter and followed by soup. You’ll then enjoy your main course, which could be pork medallions, roast chicken, beef fillet etc., accompanied by potatoes and at least two fresh vegetables. A fresh garden salad comes next followed by dessert with tea or coffee. Vegetarian entrées are prepared on request.
The Bougainvillea Safari Lodge is located near some of the most amazing wildlife areas on the planet. The gate to the World Heritage Ngorongoro Conservation Area is about a 15-minute drive from the lodge. To the east and south lies Lake Manyara National Park, a jewel of a park lying on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. Both areas are equally accessible for day trips. Other activities in and around the property include bird watching, a variety of cultural tours, hiking, walking tours, a variety of spa/massage treatments, swimming and much more.
