Ruaha River Lodge Foxes

Ruaha River Lodge Foxes is a fabulous riverside lodge, at the heart of Tanzania's extraordinary Ruaha Park. The Lodge gets its name from the Fox family. They were pioneers in setting up safari camps within the pristine wilderness. The property includes twin camps (River and Hilltop, with 14 guest bandas apiece), one low open-sided thatched lodge, and the other wrapped organically around the top of a rocky kopje. The Foxes have spent years perfecting the standards of guiding, food and accommodation. The wild, remote, and unimaginably beauty of Ruaha National Park makes it one of East Africa's best kept secrets. There are few places in the world with such prolific wildlife. Cheetahs, leopards, and lions, elephants, buffalos, and hippos, wild dog, roan antelope, you name it, there's a chance you'll see it at close quarters.

The lodges have 14 guest bandas threading out along the banks of the Ruaha. All are similar in design with walls of stone with curtains, thatched roofs of makuti palm, coffee-coloured screed floors, and front decks which take in a grand view of the river. Most bandas have a double and single bed, as well as writing desks, luggage racks, and bedside tables made of local mafinga wood.

      Dining Area

Ruaha River Lodge features two breathtaking dining areas where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included. The first is a long banda by the side of the river where breakfast is accompanied by views of game wandering down to the water for their morning drink. The second is perched atop the largest kopje in the area and commands sweeping views onto two sections of the river. Individual camp-style tables are neatly laid with green linen cloths, white napkins, and all-white crockery embellished with the Foxes logo. Meals begin with soup or salad served at your table, after which you may help yourself from a huge hot buffet set atop a series of hot plates. Dinners include roast lamb, breaded tilapia and Nile perch, rice and roast potatoes, and a great selection of vegetables.
