Rufiji River Camp is located on the banks of the Rufiji river, in a point where the ample and tranquil river is animated by many and different species of animals. The tented camp,is situated in the heart of the Selous Reserve. It is environmentally friendly and each tent is equipped with private bathroom and a veranda facing the river. There is a constant flow of animals coming down to drink at the river offering a permanent show to visitors of the camp.
In the central part of the camp hosts the restaurant, bar and library, all with a view of the river and the sunset. All of the camp structures, kitchen included, are constantly renovated, attaining the highest level of comfort without sacrificing the emotion of a completely natural environment. Electricity and hot water are powered by solar panels, while UHV-filtered drinking water is available throughout camp (including tents). A covered swimming pool is situated in the camp, between the reception and tent area.
Rufiji's 20 tents are positioned to face the sun setting over the river. The tents are furnished with comfortable beds, walled en suite facilities, mosquito netting and the comforts of a lodge. Each also has a private veranda under a roof of local straw.
Each family tent is made up of 2 adjoining tents on a private platform, and sleeps around 4-6 people. They're more luxurious than the basic tents, and have a snazzy bathroom and a private plunge pool and loungers on their terrace. Perfect for families, friends or those wanting a little more privacy and space.
Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner is included. Breakfasts consist of eggs and toast, with coffee or tea. Lunch is a buffet or a packed lunch if you're going out on a full day drive. Dinners are a 3-course affair and if you're lucky, the Masai may entertain you while you eat, with singing and dancing.
Head out on game drives in one of the lodge's fleet of 4x4s: wildlife viewing simply comes no better. Take a walking safari and experience the thrill of tracking animals alongside an armed ranger, and have local plants pointed out to you and their uses explained. Take to the Rufiji for a river safari at sunset. Utterly thrilling, you'll chug alongside hippos and crocs, and watch other animals drinking at the water's edge.
The pool is conviently located beside the tent lodges. Relax by the pool or take a nice dip in the pool to cool down from the African heat.
Consider combining a night or two at satellite fly-camps with a longer stay at the main Rufiji River Camp. These fly-camps have good-sized A-frame tents, a hot bucket shower and a toilet. These campsite areas are safe yet very remote. Dinner is cooked on the open fire, and eaten outside or beneath a canvas gazebo.
