Olakira Lamai Camp is to be located in the Lamai Wedge and is scheduled to open for the period of 1st July to 31st October 2013. Consisting of 8 tents, with the same look and feel as the existing Olakira Camp, Olakira Lamai Camp will open on the site of AfrikaAfrika’s Serengeti Mara Camp. The camp is situated in the Mihingu Area of the Lamai Wedge, in the Northern Serengeti. The Lamai Wedge area is a spectacular wildlife and scenic area and widely recognized as “the honeypot” of the Serengeti. 14km North West of Kogatende, the camp offers an ideal base for viewing the migration with easy access to river crossing points. Olakira Lamai Camp enjoys a private and intimate location, coupled with uninterrupted views of the long grass plains leading into the Masai Mara.
Many regard the Lamai Wedge as having the most beautiful scenery in the whole Serengeti eco-system. This stretch of savannah sits between the Mara River and the Kenya Border and from June – November is home to Olakira Lamai. The camp is an easy 20 minutes drive from the Mara River and the dramatic action of the annual wildebeest crossings. The game-rich valleys and plains that surround the camp are home to the big 5 and picturesque Wogakuria Kopjie provides a dramatic back drop.
Touching the earth lightly this canvas camp all but disappears into the surrounding bush, and with just eight en-suite tents Olakira – meaning “shining star” in kiSwahili – ensures an intimate and authentic wilderness experience. Tent amenities include en-suite bathrooms, flush toilets, in-room lockable box, laundry service, solar generator and battery charging facilities.
See Above Description.
Central to the camp are two common tents that are open to the surrounding nature. When the camp is occupied by multiple small groups, one tent will serve as a dining tent and the other one as a lounge, where drinks are served and safari stories are shared. When a larger group (e.g., 8 people) visits the camp, one of the common tents can be made the exclusive lounging/dining tent for that group. The other tent will then be set up as a lounging/dining tent for the other guests. Fantastic meals are served in the dining tent or in a private location: your own veranda or under the Serengeti stars.
The northern Serengeti areas are renowned for privacy from other tourists and fabulous wildlife viewing, particularly for viewing the great wildebeest migration July-Oct. Drives in these areas, short trips or full day explorations give you close encounters with the animals. Lunch in the bush while enjoying an amazing view and delicious food and wine, is a welcome interruption to otherwise action packed days. As the camp moves periodically throughout the year, this mobile camp give you the best combined game viewing of not only the world renown game of Serengeti and also of the great wildebeest migration.
