Day 2: Arusha - Manyara

Your guide will drive you from Arusha to Lake Manyara Park. The trip takes approximately 2 hours.

On todays game drive you will have to keep your eyes peeled in order to spot some of this area's beautiful and elusive big cats. It will take a keen eye to take notice of the tree climbing lions, or the camouflaged spotted leopards. You should try to look around shaded area during the hotter hours of the day, as the wildlife will be looking for a cool area to relax.

Accommodation: Lake Manyara Tree Lodge

Most people think that the famous tree-climbing lions at Lake Manyara have developed their climbing habit to get away from annoying insects. At this property, there is another theory - they’re jealous of the magnificent treehouse suites at Lake Manyara Tree Lodge!  Cradled in the boughs of an ancient mahogany forest, the lodge blends into the natural beauty of its breathtaking surroundings.  The only lodge in Lake Manyara National Park, it offers an exclusive wildlife experience with only ten luxurious yet intimate suites located in a remote corner of the reserve.  Hidden away high in the trees, Lake Manyara Tree Lodge offers a sophisticated blend of natural indulgence and romance. Nestled in dense forest between the lakeshore and the steep Rift Valley escarpment, the lodge is perfectly positioned to explore the park’s wealth of habitats. Set in the remote southern region of the park, you would be surprised to see another vehicle on your game drive. The lodge pool beckons like a cool oasis in an ocean of shady green. Generous decks suspended above the forest floor open up to a wooded embrace. Split level sitting and dining rooms combine with high thatched ceilings to create a sense of space, while warm wood interiors and understated sofas carve out cozy corners. Tantalizing aromas drift from the open, interactive kitchen, luring guests to watch as simple but delicious meals are prepared. The theatre of the open kitchen is translated into the drama of the dining boma, encircled by a tall fence of gnarled wood.

Day 3: Manyara

On this morning game drive you will explore Lake Manyara National Park. Best known for its baboons, your skilled guide will also point out the numerous herbivores that make this park their home such as hippos, impalas, elephants, wildebeests, buffalo, warthogs and giraffes.

On this afternoon game drive you can have the opportunity to do some bird watching. Lake Manyara provides great opportunities for ornithologists keen on viewing and observing over 300 migratory birds, including flamingo, the long-crested eagle and the grey-headed kingfisher. Remember if you feel like stretching, you can always opt out of any game drive and explore some of the activities at the lodge.

Day 4: Manyara - Ngorongoro

Your guide will drive you from Manyara to the mighty Ngorongoro Crater. The trip to this massive Tanzanzian landmark will take approximately 1 hour to reach.

During your stay at Ngorongoro there are many optional activities available to you. Depending on which lodge you're staying at, activities may include: nature walks, cultural village visits, a hike to Endoro waterfalls, bike tours, coffee plantation tours and more. Some of these can be prebooked through your destination specialist while others can be booked directly with the lodge upon arrival.

Accommodation: Crater Lodge

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is perched on the edge of the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater at the eastern edge of the Serengeti in northern Tanzania. Lying within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which covers more than 8 000 square kilometers (3 100 square miles) of pristine African wilderness. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is comprised of three intimate camps perched on the edge of the Crater. Day 5: Ngorongoro

Explore one of the most recognized wildlife conservation areas in Tanzania today. Depart your camp or lodge in a privately driven vehicle, along with a local expert guide, towards the Ngorongoro Crater.  The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera.  This geological masterpiece was formed as a result of an extremely large volcanic explosion which caused the volcano to collapse in on itself, thus creating a crater.  The crater is roughly 20 kilometers wide and some 2000 feet deep, making the trip from crater floor to rim around 45 minutes by 4x4.  The extremely fertile crater floor is the reason why there is such a highly concentrated amount of wildlife here.  Over 20000 mammals call the crater home, including some of the only remaining black rhinos in the world.  The crater floor also boasts one of the highest carnivore densities in the world including large prides of lions, packs of hyenas and solitary predators like cheetahs and jackals.  A keen eye, and expertly recommended search patterns from your guide, may help you spot some of the less common species like leopards, servals, and bat-eared foxes.

You are provided with a personalized, experienced tracker-guide and private transportation today whilst exploring around the Ngorongoro National Park grounds.

The successes of conservation as well as diverse habitats have ensured that, since its inception in 2003, Singita Grumeti Reserves has a well-established resident game population that inhabit the area throughout the year. In addition to the annual wildebeest migration, some notable highlights include large mixed herds of impala, zebra, topi, eland, Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle. • Katie M. — August 10, 2016 — Africa

Our Kensington Tour to Tanzania was excellent. All of our accommodations were top-notch, our flights were fantastic, and every single detail was taken care of. We were extremely impressed with how welcoming and knowledgeable our guides were.

  • Neal F. — August 10, 2016 — Africa

Best trip ever. Sarah was a delight to work with and answered all of our questions and concerns professionally and courteously. It was a trip of a lifetime and everything was fantastic. Thank u Sarah and thank you Kensington

  • Rachel F. — August 10, 2016 — Africa

Kensington Tours gave us a wonderful trip with the best guide and accommodations. They helped us book flights to avoid long drives and answered all of our questions going above and beyond. Thank you for all your help giving my family and I a trip of a lifetime! We cannot wait to go back to Africa and do it again using Kensington!

  • Jeffrey L. — August 10, 2016 — Africa

We wanted the full safari experience and Kensington was able to deliver it. We had the perfect mix of tents and lodges and honestly can say we saw about everything we could have in our time there. Our Kensington guide Elijah was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was basically a member of the family by the end of the trip. The entire trip was planned out perfectly. Thanks to Kensington and we hope to travel with them again in the future.

  • Sarah M. — August 10, 2016 — Africa

We had such a tremendous trip! We covered a lot of geography, plants and animals - both aquatic and land based. Every guide we had was knowledgeable and very personable. When Grootbos and then Madikwe found out it was my husband's birthday - our guide at Grootbos "Nita" arranged a private party for him (and us) and our chef and butler at Little Madikwe, Violet and Patience, baked cupcakes and got a small group together to sing happy birthday - in English and Afrikaans! We could never have seen so much on our own. The knowledge we gained about South African people, places, animals and history made this our trip of a lifetime! Thank you!

  • Sasha T. — August 10, 2016 — Africa

We had the most amazing time on our trip. Very grateful to Kensington for organizing all the pick ups and details so we didn't have to think or worry - we could just enjoy ourselves. Will absolutely recommend this trip to family and friends and hope to use Kensington again in the future for our next adventure. Thanks so much!

  • Kristin C. — August 10, 2016 — Africa

From the minute we landed, everything was taken care of. Every driver and guide we had were very friendly and efficient. The highlight of our trip was our stay at Kapama Southern Camp, everything about this place was amazing. We were all sad to leave and would love to return there in the future. Would highly recommend booking as many people there as possible.

  • Eric W. — August 10, 2016 — Africa

Madagascar is a very poor country with spotty infrastructure. We used Kensington for their knowledge of the area and their resources and we are very pleased. Our driver for the trip was very professional and knowledgeable of the area and the guide that we used for the rainforest walks was equally knowledgeable and professional. Bari, our guide, had a passion for the area and wanted to make sure we were able to get the best picture of each sighting. Franco, our driver, had a passion for his country and the sights and he was a definite asset on our trip.

  • Tom B. — August 10, 2016 — Africa

Guides were incredibly well-informed and taught my wife and I about the environment, animals, and culture. Our tour would have just been commonplace, without them.

  • Mary R. — July 20, 2016 — Africa

Going with Kensington Tours was a great decision. The transfers between resorts was handled very professionally and extremely smooth. I will plan my next trip to South Africa with Kensington. Money well spent!
