Tarangire Sopa Lodge

The Sopa Lodge in Tarangire, Tanzania, is well-placed among powerful baobob trees, and frequented by an abundance of wildlife. Located in the Tarangire National Park, it is a haven of picturesque gardens and vegetation accented by earthy grounds. The hotel is built of 75 spacious rooms that are truly more like suites, with remarkable space for movement and lounging. The lobby, as well, is notably festooned by wondrous windows showcasing grand views of the lodge’s surroundings. Dining is a most pleasurable experience, with caring staff and a range of culinary specialties from which to choose. The breakfast buffets are much vied after, while marked by an African authenticity. The area is most frequented by those interested in nature, and the multitude of wildlife at guests’ fingertips.

Overview

Hidden among the kopjes, lies Tarangire Sopa Lodge, surrounded by ancient baobab trees. It is the home of the greatest concentration of elephants in Africa, and other game including the elusive leopard. Over 400 bird species can be spotted here as well. With water constantly available in the area, the greenery is lush providing a wonderful contrast to the burnt ground. In the Tarangire National Park which covers an area of 2800 sq km. The lodge lies 118 km south west of Arusha, approximately 2 hours drive from Arusha town and 20 mins flying time with another 20 mins transfer time to the lodge. Spacious and airy with marble floors, and has glass sliding doors that open out to a verandah where one can relax and enjoy the view. The ceiling has a wooden finishing, and the décor with plants in strategic places, gives it a feeling of total relaxation, much needed after the long and dusty drive to the lodge.

Lodge

75 spacious rooms, all with a private lounge on entering with a mini bar. Each room is carpeted, has 2 queen size beds with a mosquito net around them. Ceiling fans keep the rooms cool and glass sliding doors that open out on to a balcony, with a great view of the landscape beyond, and wildlife can some times be spotted. **4 of these rooms are suitable for the physically challenged.

Sopa Restaurants

The restaurant is a large spacious, light and airy room with an outside seating area ideal for bbq’s and theme dinners. The restaurant offers promising views of the bush and wildlife homesteads. Meals are a delectable choice of European, African, and Asian dishes, all freshly made. Breakfasts are buffet-style, while lunch and dinner are served in starter, soup and main course fashion, with vegetarian options available. The bar provides soft drinks, alcoholic, and warm beverages. The pool bar, located at the swimming pool, is surrounded by a patio area and small sheltered umbrella areas. A range of beverages and snacks are available in this area. Located between the lobby and the dining room, the bar has comfortable seats for total relaxation.

Sopa Activities

The hotel is excellent for game viewing possibilities. It is 120 km from the Tarangire National Park by road, which is one of Tanzania’s most easily accessible conservation areas. The Tarangire Park is an area of exceptional beauty and successful game drives. It is the common game route for numerous wildlife species.
