Experience the power of nature during a tour of Kenya with a trip to Lake Baringo

Africa Safaris and Tours

Kenya tours offer display of Nature's power

For someone coming from North America, there are few places more unfamiliar than the Kenya wilderness. The Rift Valley runs through much of this east African enclave, and is home to some of the most unique geographic and meteorological weather patterns on earth. This is especially true at Lake Baringo, which has become one of the must-see destinations in Kenya.

Lake Baringo stands about 3,180 feet above sea level and offers a glimpse of the powerful weather patterns that often come into the Kenyan Rift Valley. Home to a picturesque scene on a clear day, things can change quickly at Lake Baringo. One minute you can be gazing at crystal-clear water under a pristine sky, and the next ominous clouds have appeared overhead, heralding a short but intense thunderstorm has begun pummeling the area surrounding the lake.

Though it may seem like a deterrent, this stunning display of natural power is one of the most adrenaline-pumping activities you're likely to find in Kenya, especially since you can view it from the comfort of a camp located on the lake's shores.

While powerful and unannounced storms are certainly exciting, there are many other reasons to make a visit to Lake Baringo part of your Kenya tour. Like different parts of the country, it is home to diverse animal life. The area houses an estimated 470 different species of birds, and there's a good chance you'll see migrating flamingos on the lake's shores.

If a stop at Lake Baringo has piqued your interest in other African hotspots, moving to a tour of Tanzania will certainly scratch the itch. Specifically, Ngorongoro Crater is one of your best chances to see the big five safari animals - lions, elephants, buffalo, rhinoceros and leopards.
