"Travelling with friends, instead of strangers jammed in bus, was absolutely the best of the best!” Carole Morse

Home to over 2,000 species of fish and dozens of other underwater attractions, Mozambique may be the best diving location in all of Africa. With destinations that are legendary in the diving community, waters that sit at a comfortable temperature year round and rare aquatic creatures that frequent the pristine waters off the shore, tourists looking for a memorable diving experience should look no further than the idyllic depths of Mozambique.
Explore Manta Reef
The alluring, colorful reefs are not the only thing that will catch your eye at Manta Reef, one of Mozambique's most popular diving destinations. Here, stunning, enormous manta rays inquisitively swim in the depths close to divers. Diving professionals often guide tourists to interact with the giant sea creatures, offering close encounters with the majestic creatures. Giant frog fish, moray eels, crowned emperor shrimp, sea moths and paper fish join the schools of manta rays floating through the deep blue waters of Manta Reef. The diversity of life and awesome underwater sights make Manta Reef a world class diving destination - just be sure to remember an underwater camera.
Swim with giant whale sharks
Diving with sharks can be a frightening prospect for many tourists, but divers in Mozambique are quick to discover one species of shark is much friendlier than presumed. The whale shark is a massive creature known for its slow, lackadaisical swimming and playful behavior. Often interacting with divers and snorkeling tourists, these giants of the water pose no threat to humans. Classified as the largest fish in the world, whale sharks mostly feed on plankton. Seeing these huge creatures up close is a special treat particular to the coastline of Mozambique.
Listen to the song of the humpback whale
Then again, for divers looking for even bigger aquatic creatures, the humpback whale can be found further out in the Indian ocean. Known for their impressive acrobatics, humpback whales can be seen leaping out of the water or slapping the surface with their fins. Among whale watchers, the humpback whale is the most desired species of whale to gaze at because of its frequent breaching maneuvers. Divers can experience a special feature of the humpback whale, too. The males are well known for singing complex songs through the ocean that can last up to 20 minutes long and are often repeated for hours. Divers frequently hear the songs carry through the ocean current to where they swim.
At the end of the day, hit the beach
What would a gorgeous ocean and beautiful diving experience be without a beach paradise afterwards? Mozambique has some of the most serene, untouched beaches in all of Africa. Alluring, soft sand stretches across the coastline, perfect for sunbathing and relaxing. Put away the flippers and scuba gear and sink into a comfy beach chair under the warm sun. The mainland coastline or even the beaches on some of the small islands offshore offer some of the most attractive leisure spots on the continent.
For tourists who fall in love with the diving experience, try heading to Sri Lanka for some more aquatic adventures. Take a luxurious cruise to the unspoiled coastline that teems with vibrant sea life and beautiful reefs. Soft corals, sharks, turtles and reef fish offer extravagant sights in the warm waters off the coastline. Tourists can enjoy various water sports and leisure activities on a Sri Lanka tour as well. Try kayaking, windsurfing or reef fishing to get the adrenaline pumping before retiring to the pleasant beaches.
