Visit lemurs during a tour of Madagascar

When it comes to unique wildlife experiences, few destinations can compete with East Africa. Whether it's a safari through Kenya or Tanzania, you'll be given the opportunity to see some of world's most well-known animals. This doesn't stop once you leave the mainland, either. Madagascar tours also provide travelers with the chance to experience the island's biodiversity up close, and there are a few spots on the famous island that simply can't be missed.

Andasibe-Mantadia National Park
Located along the island's east coast, Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is home to some of the most unspoiled landscape in the region. While the scenery is undoubtedly the first thing you'll notice, the national park is most well-known for being home to some primates you don't often get the chance to see. Most notably, more than 10 species of lemur call the park home, including Indri, the largest species of lemur in Madagascar. There are a number of other rare and endangered species in the park as well, including a colony of Nile crocodiles.

Tsingy de Bemaraha Strict Nature Reserve
Situated on the opposite side of the island from Andasibe-Mantadia, Tsingy offers a completely different experience. The lush landscapes dotted by lemurs have been replaced by a stark appearance highlighted by stunning limestone formations. Not only does this create an unusual backdrop, but exploring these unique formations is an experience unlike any other. While it may look different, it houses a large number of the island's most cherished residents including lemurs, six rare bird species and endemic amphibians.

Anjajavy Forest
Given that it's an island, it's no wonder that Madagascar is home to many picturesque coastal destinations, and that includes Anjajavy Forest. Relatively untouched by tourists, this area of the island sits on the Indian Ocean and, much like the other natural highlights of Madagascar, is an ideal place to see some of the island's best-known animals. Although certainly appealing to wildlife enthusiasts, the best aspect of Anjajavy is undoubtedly its beaches. In addition to relaxing on long stretches of sand alongside crystal clear water, you can explore much of the pristine reserve, whether you want to make your way through the many creeks that crisscross the area or get a close-up view of the coral remains.
