Tongabezi Lodge is a romantic hideaway on the banks of the Zambezi River just upstream of Victoria Falls. This was one of the first lodges built inside Mosi-oa-Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders) National Park. Here there is no set pattern to your days; guests can do as much or as little as they wish, with game drives, bush walks and boating trips all included in the price. Choose form a selection of houses and cottages, each beautifully furnished using local materials. Every room at Tongabezi has a valet assigned to them who will look after our guests throughout their stay. With his in-depth knowledge of Tongabezi and the surrounding area, he is sure to become your indispensable source of information. Tongabezi combines romance and exclusivity with warm and attentive service.
Tongabezi is located upstream from Victoria Falls, just a few kilometres from the town of Livingstone. This lodge holds prime position on the Zambian banks of the river and is made up of a number of free standing houses and cottages, perfect for honeymooners and families alike.
Tongabezi has 5 River Cottages overlooking the banks of the Zambezi. Each has a large double bed or two singles, plus a mosquito net and ensuite bath and shower, along with indoor and outdoor areas where guests can dine under the stars or simply sit and enjoy the ever-changing river views. Because the River Cottages are close-fronted with gauze netting in the windows, we find they are better suited to guests who feel nervous about sleeping in open fronted rooms, but still wish to listen to the sounds of the bush at night. Personal valet’s are assigned to every room at Tongabezi luxury lodge. A visit to Victoria Falls is only one of many activities that can be enjoyed in the area.
There are 6 houses available, each with it's own theme: Bird House, Nut House, Tree House, Dog House, Garden House and Honeymoon House. The private houses emphasize exclusivity with the bedroom and sitting areas entirely open to the river, creating a feeling of sleeping outdoors, covered only by the thatched roof. The king beds are draped with mosquito netting, forming the only barrier to the great outdoors and the bathrooms feature huge open-air sunken baths. Romantic meals can be served on the private balconies overlooking the river. Each house has its own theme with the same spacious layout and open front with deck and lounge area. Each house and cottage has its own valet who takes care of guests throughout their stay and act as a private concierge.
A haven from the elements, Nut House is the only house that is entirely enclosed with light streaming in through every wall. Charming glass tiles reflect the sunrise in African patterns onto the wood and stone floors. Folding doors open into the private garden and infinity plunge pool. Spectacular views over the Zambezi are guaranteed from the elevated position on the river bank. Each house and cottage has its own valet who takes care of guests throughout their stay and act as a private concierge.
The result of a number of years of energy, imagination and many conversations with top travel specialists and guests, the Garden House perfectly fills the family travel niche at Tongabezi. Set back from the river, seclusion and shelter are a happy swop for the sweeping Zambezi views that can still be enjoyed from any of the decks of the main lodge. It is a very private, very safe space where all the members of the family can spread out a little and indulge in an exclusive dining room, large lounge, two double en-suite bedrooms and of course run around the garden or cool off in the private plunge pool. Whether you are a wide eyed bush baby or parents who believe romance should always be a priority.
Our commitment to fresh seasonal food, entertaining presentation and the option for adventurous travelers to partake in typical Zambian cuisine is legendary. Venue options start in your room – every room has a dedicated dining area. Alternatively share your meal with other guests at our gorgeous sleeper dining table – hosted by a gregarious manager. Take a private table on one of three open air dining decks or book an entire floor of the Lookout for an exclusive meal. Venture a little further afield to experience a Sanpan anchored offshore in the Zambezi River and attended by waiters (and the occasional singing choir!) who deliver each course by canoe!
