Uma Paro offers exceptional style in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. Reflecting an understated philosophy of quiet comfort in a unique, culture-rich location, this inland retreat is also dedicated to activity and adventure. The landscape is dramatic with pine-clad valleys and snow-tipped ranges. Bhutan is Buddhist, retaining respect for religious tradition. Access this world with the inland treks, comprehensive tours and excursions led by Uma guides.
Uma Paro's guest services include access to COMO Shambhala Retreat, comprehensive travel and tour assistance, including treks and guides, concierge and butler services, foreign exchange, multilingual hotel staff, laundry and pressing services, maid service and evening turndown, fully licensed as a travel agency and ground handler in Bhutan, business centre with library and Internet service, babysitting (on request, with 24 hours notice), and private cars and drivers upon request.
The Superior rooms at Uma Paro have comfortable double rooms overlook the pine forests and feature a king-sized bed, handpainted traditional Bhutanese wall designs and a well-appointed bathroom with combined shower-bathtub. Larger than our Superior Rooms, Deluxe Rooms provide undisturbed views over the Paro Valley. Rooms feature a king-sized bed and generous bathroom with bathtub and separate shower stall. Amenities for both rooms include high speed WiFi Internet access, bottled water, satellite TV, DVD player, dual line, direct dial telephone with voicemail, electronic in-room safe, individually controlled air conditioning, COMO Shambhala bathroom, egyptian cotton linen, fine goosedown duvet, hairdryer, mini bar, umbrella, yoga mat, and complimentary coffee/tea making facilities.
At Uma Paro, our approach to cuisine is modern, light and respectful of local nuances. Menus revive traditional Bhutanese offerings as well as offer contemporary interpretations of neighbouring cuisines. These include Indian dishes from the charcoal tandoor oven. The experience is nourishing, relying on fresh produce grown in the surrounding region, from hand-churned butter, to wild mushrooms and honey. All this can also be enjoyed on room service menus. We also offer classic comfort dishes from pizzas to burgers. Uma Paro works with a local farmer in the Paro Valley who maintains the hotel’s market garden. This means you enjoy the freshest produce, brought from field to table with minimum delay.
COMO Shambhala Retreat is Uma Paro's holistic heart, a place to improve wellness with Asian-inspired treatments, including massage and Ayurveda. We also make extensive use of natural, local ingredients, working with Bhutan's Hospital of Traditional Medicine. Facilities include treatment rooms, a Hot Stone Bath house, a large indoor pool with outdoor sundeck, steam rooms for men and women, a gym and Yoga studio with Paro Valley views. Some other activities in and around Uma Paro include shopping, yoga, day walks, camping treks, biking, cultural tours, and 4X4 drives.
