Set in the upper reaches of the Motithang area, Amankora Thimphu is a 16-suite lodge close to the capital’s sights and shopping while remaining a quiet retreat. The dzong inspired architecture incorporates high stone, white-washed buildings. Visits to Thimphu’s folk-heritage and textile museums and festive ceremonies offer engaging insights into Bhutan’s cultural and spiritual traditions.
The lodge incorporates tall, white-washed stone buildings accessed through an enclosed entrance court. The Living and Dining Room features soaring ceilings and an outdoor dining deck with views of the nearby stream and surrounding forest. The spacious Library with its seating, writing and lounging areas, houses a collection of books on Bhutan and the surrounding Himalayan regions. The library can also be converted into a private Meeting and Conference Room, featuring the latest audio visual amenities. The Boutique specializes in a fine collection of Bhutanese textiles, Himalayan art and jewellery. The Spa includes three treatment rooms, a steam room and changing areas.
At Amankora Thimphu guest suites include an extremely comfortable king-size bed, a warming bukhari which separtes the bedroom from the spacious terrazzo-clad bathroom, and a combination of wood paneling and earth brown walls. Two reading chairs are situated near the window banquette providing views across a landscaped courtyard or directly onto the nearby stream and pine forest which creat an atmosphere of maximium relaxation. Dotted with ancient monasteries and lhakhangs (temples).
Thimphu is home to many attractions including the Taschichoe Dzong which houses the seat of government and the office of His Majesty, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. The Spa in Amankora Thimphu offers royal Bhutanese treatments using local herbs, given the close proximity of the Royal Palace. As Thimphu is an active place and the site of much socialising, the focus of spa treatments is to provide a peaceful haven where addition of a little glamour through herbal applications leaves guests feeling pampered, beautiful and regal. Some other activities in and around Amankora Thimphu include traditional archery, fishing, trekking, golf and white water rafting.
