Day 3: Sydney

The Blue Mountains Canyons and Wildlife Discovery is a real journey into the heart of a unique World Heritage Region. From temperate rainforests to towering sandstone escarpments, you’ll see and experience it all. Let the landscape work its wonders and become part of you for a lifetime. Your informative and knowledgeable guide will collect you from your Sydney hotel as you commence your small group deluxe tour into the heart of the unique Blue Mountains World Heritage Region. The first stop this morning is at Featherdale Wildlife Park where you arrive before any other tourists, to meet the native Australian animals here – you can actually get up close and personal, stroke a koala and hand feed kangaroos, wallabies and emus. Departing from Featherdale, commence the drive to the Blue Mountains via the highway. After a stop at the Wentworth Lookout, continue on and arrive at Eaglehawk Lookout, a remote lookout point away from the crowds for views of the famous 3 Sisters. Whilst the Blue Mountains features so much more than this natural attraction you can’t help but admire the unquestionable beauty of this amazing rock formation. The character of the Three Sisters changes throughout the day and throughout the seasons as the sunlight brings out the magnificent colors. Then journey around the mountain to the village of Blackheath and today's lunch venue the Blackheath Golf Club. Here in this relaxed, friendly club you'll enjoy a 2 course lunch (food only). All diets are catered for. Beverages can be purchased at your own expense from the bar. The afternoon is spent visiting a selection of lookouts. Once you clap your eyes on the view from Govetts Leap you’ll know why it’s one of the most famous lookouts in Australia. The magnificent waterfall drops a whopping 180 meters to the base of the cliff. The last stop is the delightful Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens where you'll stop to enjoy the sweeping views across to Sydney and enjoy a glass of sparkling wine or orange juice before travelling down the Bells Line of Road to arrive back at your hotel approximately 4.30 - 5.00 p.m. This small group tour can accommodate up to 17 passengers and departs Sydney between 7.00 and 7.30 a.m.

Come and join your guide to explore the most profound and culturally significant monolith in Australia. Departing the resort the tour will travel thorough the landscapes to the entrance of the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. From this point it is only a matter of minutes before the spectra of Uluru rises from the sand dunes to demonstrate its enormity and presence in this country. The first step allows you a photographic opportunity of this amazing icon. With Uluru looming in front of you, your guide journey toward the base. Walk with your guide to a place of tranquility. The closer you wander the more you surrender to the realization of the sheer size of this monolith. As you drive around the base, your guide will take you to the entrance of Mutitjulu Waterhole, a semi-permanent watercourse nestled in the contours of Uluru. Here you will learn the Creation stories of Liru (poisonous snake) and Kuniya (python) as well as a number of other stories associated with other prominent Tjukurpa (Dreaming) stories. You will see the rock art of the ancients and learn how Uluru was, and still is, a significant location for teaching young Aboriginal people. Then adjourn to the new Talinguru Nyakunytjaku viewing area where you will observe an uninterrupted view of Uluru with Kata Tjuta in the background. Your guide will then return to your accommodation at Ayers Rock Resort. The tour departs between 2.00 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. depending on the time of the year (confirmed at time of booking) and returns 5 hours later. This small group tour has a limit of 12 participants per guide.

Day 5: Ayers Rock

Revel in the early morning serenity of a truly spiritual place as the sunrise colors change on Kata Tjuta. Departing the resort you will travel through the landscape to the entrance of Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. From there is it a 40 kilometer journey through the desert landscape to the mighty rock formation. On arrival at the viewing area you walk to the best vantage point to see the 36 domes that comprise this spiritual place while watching the sun’s morning glow as the desert comes alive. Make your way to the western side of Kata Tjuta where you will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy an outback picnic breakfast. As you approach the entrance to Walpa Gorge, named for the wind (Walpa) that whistles between the massive domes that shape Kata Tjuta, the result of eons of weathering and continual upheaval, your guide will share the significance of this men’s sacred ceremonial site. Take a stroll between these mighty conglomerate rock walls as your guide explains how the environment and the geology has evolved over millions of years. Your guide will return you to your accommodation at Ayers Rock Resort. Departure is between 4.45 a.m. and 6.15 a.m. depending on time of year. The tour takes approximately 5 hours. The group size may vary between 2 and 12 passengers. Please bring some water with you.

At the Sounds of Silence experience, you can dine under the canopy of the desert night, while your very own storyteller shares tales as told in the stars. Entered into the Australian Tourism Hall of Fame, Sounds of Silence offers the best of the Red Centre distilled into four magical hours - an evening of dining under the sparkling outback sky. Your Sounds of Silence experience begins with canapés and chilled sparkling wine served on a viewing platform overlooking the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. As the sun sets and darkness falls, listen to the sound of a didgeridoo and join your table for an unforgettable dining experience and an introduction to Aboriginal culture with a traditional dance performance under the outback sky. The attentive staff will keep your glass full with a quality selection of Australian wine and beer while first course is served. As the night sky twinkles to life, feast on a bush tucker inspired buffet that incorporates native bush ingredients such as crocodile, kangaroo, barramundi and quandong. Settle back and listen to the resident star talker decode the southern night sky. Locate the Southern Cross, the signs of the zodiac, the Milky Way, as well as planets and galaxies that are visible due to the exceptional clarity of the atmosphere. After dinner, enjoy dessert with a glass of port, tea or coffee. This is a shared experience with 8 - 10 guests per table and an overall maximum of 100 participants.  Please reconfirm your pick-up time with hotel reception upon arrival to the hotel.

  • JohnDanielson — December 12, 2014 — Australia & Pacific

We have used a number of small group travel companies and Kensington is the one we would recommend. All details of the trip to New Zealand went as planned. It was the trip of a lifetime. Our travel consultant Daniel did a great job, both pre-trip and post-trip. We will certainly use them again.

  • Susan Pope — April 21, 2014 — Australia & Pacific

The arrangements all worked out very well, especially the drivers picking us up from airports and hotels. The hotels, although all in different categories, were mostly excellent. We were happy to see so many different areas of New Zealand and experience everything from glow worm caves to fjords to a Maori hangi and geothermals.

  • Sharon Weckenbrock — May 15, 2013 — Australia & Pacific

We are safely back home but still on Cloud 9 from the fabulous trip that you helped to put together for us! Everything worked just as I had hoped it would and in many cases, exceeded all expectations.

We have definitely been recommending you and your company to anyone asking our advice and again, we can't thank you enough for a trip of a lifetime!

  • Donna Brennan — April 18, 2013 — Australia & Pacific

The trip was great we all loved the Saint Regis Hotel. It was incredible! Thank you for helping me plan the trip the group was very impressed.

    Thank you again,

    Donna

  • Paula McNally — April 24, 2013 — Australia & Pacific

The trip was wonderful!! . That resort is absolutely beautiful. We had good weather -- hot and humid. The people were very nice everywhere we went.

  • Marcia Nunn — April 01, 2013 — Australia & Pacific

Candace and I are back in Michigan today after a wonderful trip to New Zealand. You and she did a great job in organizing this trip. Couldn't have been better. In particular, the Wilderness Lodge is a very special place.

  • Cindy Burns — April 04, 2013 — Australia & Pacific

Miranda is the best, I would recommend her and we plan on contacting her in the future. The hotels were all excellent and the guides knowledge & Service were excellent

  • Sheila Black — April 08, 2013 — Australia & Pacific

We had the best time you could imagine and it was all based on your planning-thank-you so so much!!

Every hotel was located just where we would have wanted-all so lovely and we loved the buffet breakfasts!! The Grace is a beautiful hotel and everyone was very helpful-we could walk to the main areas and Darling Harbor and we just loved being in Sydney-Norm even got in a game of golf!! Every tour was wonderful. We are so glad you switched us from the large bus Blue Mountain tour to the boutique tour-we heard others talk of the Blue Mountain tour in that it was a long drive, crowded and they did not seem to have a great day. We LOVED our boutique tour-we had a super driver (Cliff)who really really tried to find every animal in the wild he could-we saw kangaroos, emu, wombats and even a koala-it was a wonderful day-we got back about 11;30 pm and because of that we saw so many of the nocturnal animals-he was so accommodating-just a great day!!

The Pullman in Cairns was just gorgeous-and we could walk to the water-we had a perfect(calm!!) day on the reef and we loved the trip to the rainforest-all in all a wonderful few days there. Our weather for the whole trip was also perfect!!! How did you do that!!??!!

We thank-you so much, Louise, for helping us-you take full credit for this holiday and we so often spoke of you there “thanks to Louise for another great day” we would say!! Every tour worked out perfectly-the flights were just great and the timing super-and we really felt you listened to what we ‘thought ‘ we wanted to do and you just seemed to know what would be right for us. We packed some Canada pins and tee shirts and gave them to our tour drivers and they seemed to love that!!

We came home happy and relaxed and so thankful-I will send you a few pictures for certain.

  • Josie Rodriguez — March 19, 2013 — Australia & Pacific

Thank you for all your help arranging a wonderful Australian tour for us. There was a lot of anxiety/reservation arranging a tour on line, not meeting the other person on the other line but it all ended well and we had a fantastic experience. Please thank also Ruby for us for arranging our domestic flights. The two of you did a very good job in coordinating/planning everything.

For sure I will use you again in our next trip which will be in September. We would like to go to St. Petersburg, Malta and Sicily.

    Again, thank you!
