Woodbridge is the preeminent historic luxury accommodation in Tasmania, offering personalised boutique accommodation near Hobart in a superbly restored, 1825 convict-built riverfront mansion, Tasmania’s only member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. A seamless blend of grand history and modern amenity, Woodbridge welcomes guests with its relaxed charm and easy comfort. Described by a guest as “like being given the keys to a friend’s country mansion”, Woodbridge is less a hotel, and more an experience of warm country hospitality. At Woodbridge you will step back in time, return to a gentler pace. Do as much or as little as you wish in an easy rhythm of yesteryear, where activity and relaxation is interspersed with the most social of all activities – food and wine.
Once referred to as ‘The Grand Old Dame by the River’, Woodbridge boasts 39 rooms, but hosts a maximum of only 16 guests in only 8 suites and rooms, so your privacy and peaceful enjoyment is assured. Woodbridge sits on the banks of the beautiful Derwent River and the river features in so many activities – walking, kayaking, rafting, swimming and fishing. The property is located in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania’s renowned gourmet food bowl. Premier wineries and farm gate producers are popular excursions in most guests’ itineraries.

Dining is set in the colonial splendour of The Pavilion and is always a delightful experience. The Pavilion is not open to the public. It is a private dining room and reservations are essential. Please be aware the dining experience may not be available without a prior reservation. The Pavilion’s style is relaxed and unpretentious, but the service is personal and complete. Chefs Celia and Liam create sophisticated menus which feature local fresh fruits and vegetables in season.
The Derwent Valley is breath-taking beautiful, with constantly changing vistas along winding country roads and meandering walking tracks.
