The island has the richest lagoon of the Society Islands thus providing truly amazing diving. There are over 30 dive sites between Raiatea and Taha'a. The underwater landscape wealth is enhanced by the "Nordby", a magnificent three-mast schooner that sank in 1900, and is located just in front the Raiatea Pearl Resort. The fauna has a lot of species and the underwater topography is very interesting with deep dives and caves. One particularity is the Distichopora coral, highlighting parts of the reef in yellow and purple. It is a famous place for underwater photography.

The hotel is host to a number of excursions, each of which is more tempting than the next. They offer 259 square kms of land to be explored on foot, on horseback or by jeep. Raiatea boasts the only navigable river in French Polynesia . . . the Apoo Ma'u in the Bay of Faaroa.
